⤅ Part of this rating is born from sentiment, so feel free to take it with a pinch of salt. But I do genuinely love this book. I freely admit it has a shite cover. But in this case, definitely don't judge. I first read the book when I was about 14, so maybe that's part of it, but I still enjoy rereading it and I like to think my taste has improved since then... This is technically the third book in the series, but they're all standalones and IMO this is the best, so you can just start here. This is technically the third book in the series, but they're all standalones and IMO this is the best, so you can just start here. (And end here - I think there's a definite dip in quality for the later books, which were published after a 5-year hiatus). It features Rachel Allen, a small-town reporter, who stumbles across the existence of a BDSM sex club and is caught by a pair of police officers called Killian Kregor and Adam Something-I-Don't Remember. They're members of the club themselves, and though they threaten to arrest her for assaulting an officer and trespassing, she strikes a deal to have the charges dropped in exchange for sex. Then, of course, she flees, having never intended to follow up. But they track her down, get what they're owed, and end up tumbling into a relationship. Despite what it may sound like, there's no dub-con; Rachel is totally here for it every step of the way. The BDSM sex club thing is definitely sleazy, but it doesn't play a big part in the book. There's no OW drama. But the best thing about this book? It's filled with insanely refreshing characters and a MASSIVE dash of humour . No moody billionaires here! Adam and Killian are small-town police officers, and Killian in particular is said to have been a very average student, so socially the book already feels more grounded than most BDSM romances. They felt almost like 'normal' people with 'normal' relationship problems (just with an extra boyfriend, obviously...). Like, they spend their days discussing/debating things like the safety of Rachel's job, trust in relationships, her self-esteem issues, etc. Nothing life-or-death. And contrary to what you may have inferred from me forgetting Adam's name, he's just as fleshed-out as Killian. And they have a great relationship - the bond between them is clearly shown. All the characters seriously feel like they're the kind of real where I could reach out and just touch them. To top it all off, it's pretty damn funny. While Penn does have a predilection for purple prose at the crux of some sex scenes, most of the prose is very normal, and the dialogue in particular is entertainingly realistic. I think the author doesn't take herself too seriously, and it makes the book in general a really fun read. I do wish she'd write more.

Okay, as I started reading this, I was thinking it sounded really familiar, and then I realized that there is another version, a very short version, as part of an anthology. I liked the shorter version better. The men in this book made me angry. I love dominant men and all that, but I think in Rachel's position, I would have kicked them to the curb and said forget about it. I know that you need to suspend all reality when reading books like this. When I read these BDSM books, I seem to have this mental roadblock ... I am absolutely okay with men who totally dominate in the bedroom, but not okay when they try to take over every aspect outside of the bedroom. That's what these two did, and in their minds they had a good reason, but after that, no matter what, I couldn't like them. I couldn't form my bond with them like I do in most novels. Their arrogance and controlling ways made me so angry, and I know that is what the author wanted us to feel at that time. She is very talented in that, but I have a hard time letting go of it. I started speed reading just to get to the part where Rachel kicked their asses and broke up with them for good. (view spoiler)[ She did break up with them, but of course we all want a HEA. After Rachel did not come back to them, they kidnapped/collared, and took her to their sex club to force her in front of every member of the club ... or so we're led to believe. She is saying no and using her safe word, which they tell her she is not allowed to do. She finally comes to the realization that they were truly meant for each other. My head was spinning and I didn't really feel the love or the bond in these characters. I know from reading the other reviews that I was alone in this opinion so I gotta believe this is just my own issues rearing their head. (hide spoiler)] Jenny Penn is a great author, and even when I got mad at the characters I could appreciate the author's great imagination and great dialogue. I can't wait to read more of her other books :)

Rachel is what you would call a good girl, not knowing that she does have a dark side. Rachel will soon find out what it is to be with two strong, hunky men that will show her the time of her life. Playing games with people's feelings is not right and someone will get hurt and truth needs to be told. Rachel needs to find out what she truly finds in these two men Adam and Killian. Adam is such a sweet heart and truly wants to find out how to please a woman and be able to be her boyfriend, husband. Adam is a man that you can consider husband material and is willing to learn how to satisfy a woman in everything, not only in bed but also in every other aspect of a relationship. There is something in Adam’s past that he needs to deal with or else a relationship that he desperately needs will not work. Killian is the total opposite of Adam. He is the one that you see as a good night of passion and loving and the next weekend someone different, basically a player, arrogant. Killian deep down in him is a proper gentleman but has a hard time bringing that out in him. But with a good woman he just might expose his true self. I love his character—he seems to be the adult in the relationship and be the mediator, trying to bring things together but also has a dark side to his personality. Will these three, Rachel, Adam and Killian be able to come full circle and trust one another and see if there can really be a relationship? 3 ½ Tea Cups!

Rachel Adams wants to get past writing articles that focus on the small town oddities that make her small town homes, she wants a big story that could jump start her career as a serious reporter. After she makes an appointment with the town's sheriff, she finds herself directly in line with Deputy Killian Kregor who finds himself unexpectedly smitten with the fiery tempered Rachel. What surprises Killian the most is that Rachel wants nothing to do with him and rebuffs every attempt he makes. I reread this one and changed my rating up to a five stars. I love the broody Adam whose own past protects his heart and the charismatic Killian whose own warped ideas of women keep getting him in trouble. Love Jenny Penn's books another fantastic book by Jenny Penn. **Ok reread again, I am a glutton for a good book. I have to say that Killian is one of my favorite men in books, the man is an idiot with the way he rationalizes everything but there is a charm to him that is difficult to resist.

2.5 Stars Bloody hell but the main characters in this book were complete dithering idiots! The men were just plain controlling and slightly dumb and the woman just needed to make up her damn mind. I had eye strain reading this book I rolled them so damn much!

This book is pretty good. Rachel has doubts because of her weight so she gives the run around in order to get male attention. The men have real feelings for her and struggle with that and her rejection. I was enjoying it until it got just...too sexist. in the way where the author is reinforcing the characters sexism and trying to show they're right. 'Oh they said you're not allowed to go out alone? and then you do because they don't own you, but of course you end up in the middle of a bar right and concede they were right and maybe should control your life. like no lol I was enjoying it until it got just...too sexist. in the way where the author is reinforcing the characters sexism and trying to show they're right. This follows through most of the book until everything comes out in the end! The book runs almost exactly the same time frame as Hailey's Game but ends before the big reveal from there but there are still lots of overlapping parts of the story line but from a different perspective. This is a sweet story with a whole lot of dirty sex weaved in the story - awesome!!!!!

Not as good as the first two in the series, but not all of them can be completely brilliant. However, this was a good read but I just didn’t connect to these characters as much as I usually do with Jenny Penn books. I think this book was a lot more about the steamy sex… and oh boy, there was a TON! Had a very hard time reading this book. When a woman repeatedly says no, it should mean no. This book, unlike the other two in this series, the author thought that the constant stalking of a woman was okay. In my opinion, of course, it shouldn't matter what she was feeling or even if the men thought she was okay with it. Rachel REPEATEDLY said NO, but they kept going after her. Jenny Penn's sex books are hot and enjoyable. While I doubt any of her story lines could work in real life, a girl can dream, right? Rachel's seduction is a smooth addition to the Cattleman's club. I did enjoy her first two in this series. Two hot men and one horny female equates to kinky sex. This book does follow the predictable tone as with her other books. Fun and enjoyable read. Jenny Penn's sex books are hot and enjoyable. This book was lacking in a storyline compared to others by this author. It seemed like the book went on and on and repeated itself over and over. I have read other books by Ms. Penn before and found them enjoyable this one wasn't that it wasn't enjoyable just slow. Needed it to move faster. This one shows the sweeter side of the Cattleman's Club. It features very believable characters and some unbelievable sex, and I don't think Ms Penn's happy endings have ever been happier than in this one.
