Johann Heinrich Friedrich Karl Witte (born July 1st, 1800 in Lochau (now part of Schkopau); died March 6th, 1883 in Halle) was a German jurist and Dante Alighieri scholar. He was the son of a pastor Karl Heinrich Gottfried Witte who encouraged a fairly intense program of learning. When Karl was nine, he spoke five languages and at the age of 12 became a doctor of philosophy Johann Heinrich Friedrich Karl Witte (born July 1st, 1800 in Lochau (now part of Schkopau); died March 6th, 1883 in Halle) was a German jurist and Dante Alighieri scholar. He was the son of a pastor Karl Heinrich Gottfried Witte who encouraged a fairly intense program of learning. When Karl was nine, he spoke five languages and at the age of 12 became a doctor of philosophy at the University of Giessen in Germany. The book focuses on the treatment Karl received from each of his parents as a child, which focused on a combination of teaching by curiosity, intrigue, humor and sarcasm also incorporating fun learning games into everyday activities. It helped that Karl sr. was an influential and highly-regarded scholar himself in both Austria and Germany, thus, from a young age, Karl jr. was able to mingle with the sons and daughters of accomplished men & women, and, Karl sr. was able to take Karl jr. to many on-location places such as factories, mines and newspaper printing presses, which may be off limits to people of more modest means and backgrounds.

Excellent discourse on the teaching methods used by pastor Karl Witte (sr.) to teach his son Karl Witte (jr.) who, by age 12, became a doctor of philosophy at the University of Giessen in Germany. It also helped that Karl sr. was an influential and highly-regarded scholar himself in both Austria and Germany, thus, from a young age, Karl jr. was able to mingle with the sons and daughters of well-accomplished men & women, and, Karl sr. was able to take Karl jr. to many on-location places such as factories, mines and newspaper printing presses, which may be off limits to people of more modest means and backgrounds. Still, the emphasis was on the fact that Karl jr. was a regular boy with regular talents/aptitudes and that the methods employed by Karl sr. may be applied by any person in the teaching of their children. In today's society I'd like to agree but this may prove difficult in some cases. At the very least, the focus on home-schooling from an early age into early adulthood may prove difficult (if impossible) in some countries, despite the fact that Karl sr. hoped for a better world that some day embraced his methods of home-schooling. He hoped they may be applied to all children so that those of lesser means could rise to the capability of those of higher means, and those of higher means and good morals could use these methods to advance the human race as a whole through the reaching of entirely new levels of accomplishment. In fact, I'm not that surprised this is the first review on here for the book, it has been essentially ignored (except in elite circles) in the west; in China and Japan however, it has become a classic and Best-seller in the past few years, with revival in the extremely strict school systems, and many families hoping to learn how to produce a genius in order to give their child a leg up on the large amount of competition they will have to face in the future for scarce work placements in the often lauded Academic (Universities) and Knowledge (engineering, management and/or desk job) sectors of the International working force. Expect many more reviews of this literary record of an innovative (and to this day, taboo) teaching method in the near future!

Imagine what this method assisted with modern technology and teaching methods will produce! At least it would take public or common knowledge to a whole new level.

Brave insights on the importance of starting ”education” (not school, but intentional subconscious cues by parents) early. I especially loved how Pastor Witte was able to instill such a pure curiosity for knowledge through nature and first principles thinking. My only criticism is the lack of focus on emotional intelligence. In every case, Witte simply invokes God and His teachings (he is a Pastor after all), and claims that Karl never did anything bad because of it. In every case, Witte simply invokes God and His teachings (he is a Pastor after all), and claims that Karl never did anything bad because of it. I think it's important for kids to make mistakes while they are young, experience a wide range of moral landscapes, and decide for themselves what they believe to be right and wrong. Still, it's clear that Pastor Witte loves his son, and did everything he could to prepare him for the world. His innovative methods broke convention and changed a lot of minds.

It covered very different topics like Karl toys, the environment, diet, moral education, how to express himself in mother tongue, learn languages, importance of reasoning, rewards, education is sciences, etc.. A later "copy" is Glenn Doman: How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence: The Gentle Revolution - After learning the first language, he became faster and faster learning new languages, and became a polyglot. In a few years he could speak French, English, Italian, Latin, Greek beside German. - He became one of the biggest expert on Dante, and interpreting “Göttliche Komödie”. The Divine Comedy - Based on the book his major talent was mathematics (he could solve problems, what was impossible for Euler), but his father was against the specialization (what a pitty..)

This book is certainly a lost gem. It tells the story of how Karl Witte was educated and became a very young PhD. His father, the author of the book, insisted that his son was normal at birth, and that a specific type of education can transform any child into a genius.

A bit disappointed, as it was a highly acclaimed read back in China, I appreciated suggestions for raising a child into being a talent man and truly believe in them. I guess it would be more popular after some rendering in the style of story telling, or reference them in a modern background.
