Elias is a young man who has believed his father, a leading anthropologist, and mother, a famous theologian, tragically died years before in a cavern collapse. He is now visited by an ecclectic and nervous group of researchers who claim to be the trusted former expedition team of his parents. They provide him with his mother's detailed journals which paint a far different and disturbing picture than what he had been raised to believe, including the brutal events they had witnessed during their final expedition. It is now up to Elias to carry on the importance of their exploratory work and to uncover the truth of what waits to be revealed within his own expedition's descent into the deepest ice caverns of inconspicuous Greenland. Determined to ensure their work is never realized is a seemingly sinister organization charged with protecting the sanctity and structure of world religion. The journey will lead Elias to ultimately discover what lies in the most hidden depths of mankind. He is about to learn the truth surrounding the death of his parents, the drive behind their work, and those who wish to destroy it. Beneath the Paper Truss is an intoxicating novel written with extraordinarily well researched fact and ancient mythology. A must read.

Here's my basic review of the story but here I'm upgrading to 5 stars for the unabridged collector's edition! This is a wonderful book, especially if you're interested in archeology or ancient symbolism whether it be fictional, fantastical or ancient fact. I guarantee this book will give you shocks that nobody would ever expect. The boatman element is out of this world and sticks with you deep. I gave the original release 3 stars but the unabridged is 5. This one shows us more of who the parents are and Elias as a young boy that totally affects how he sees everything as a young man. We also are given a more extensive view of the journey of the boatman which is brilliant and the best part of the book!! I love it! I'll also repeat myself here: I'd say to publishers that I understand putting a book out is expensive and typically it's tried to be kept at 350 pages or so, but over editing a longer book to try and make it fit into some average really affects the book! Just put the whole thing out! I'm so glad they published the unabridged version because it topped it all off for me and turned great into fantastic. Really wish they'd done that to begin with.

I am desperate to find this book -- to borrow, rather than buy, however. Money is simply non-existant since my divorce, while the medical bills are still coming in way too fast. If you have a copy you wouldn't mind loaning me -- or a copy of any of Anna Kavanaugh's other books on my wish list (ALL of them are on my wish list ... I'm not picky other than that I prefer to read them in the order in which they were published, and I also prefer to read unabridged editions) -- I would be indebted to yo I am desperate to find this book -- to borrow, rather than buy, however. Please note, though: If you do loan me one or more of Anna Kavanaugh's books, it will probably take me longer than most people to return them to you ... This is because my narcolepsy is making it increasingly difficult for me to read for long periods of time; I tend to fall asleep whenever I try to read. And I was a slow reader in the first place, LOL. However, I ***WILL*** return anything you lend me, I'll return it in the same condition I receive it, and I'll gladly keep you posted on my reading progress so *you* will know when I'll be preparing to return the books to you. Thank you in advance for your help, :D Heather

My favorite book from Kavanaugh. It is well thought out and supported by what is obviously extensive research that it caught me right off the bat. The blend of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Stargate, Lara Croft, Journey to the Center of the Earth and Lord of the Rings makes for a can not put down book. The adventure and archeological quest is balanced beautifully by more of a spiritual calm within the action we might find stories such as The Abyss, Contact, The Edge, Meet Joe Black. Now expanding on my review of the abridged, this receives 4 stars. It's the experience of the story in a richer way. This story twists and turns through several halls of complexity and it was a publishing crime to put this book out earlier as an abridgement. Thank you to the publisher for giving Kavanaugh fans what they deserve by allowing us access to her full embodiment of this story. My suggestion is to never abridge again. I loved the first edition but when they put out the collection set and included the unabridged limited second collector's edition of Truss, I was over the moon! It had over 200 additional pages which of course dramatically affected my response to the story. Truss isn't my favorite Kavanaugh novel but I loved it and was stoked about the unabridged version! Great story but the publisher pulled a major flub in publishing this as an abridged edition. I didn't fully realize the extent until they published the unabridged as they should have. You cannot dissect a Kavanaugh book for the sake of marketability qualifications without losing the value of her message. The depth of research alone earns 5 stars from me. Kavanaugh shows tremendous command over her unique blending of ancient fact and ancient myth in creating this masterpiece. Very pleased with the unabridged version that includes the story in whole but loved the abridged all the same.

Reiteration of my review on the unabridged version of this book which I awarded five stars. Same review but the book is lessened somewhat due to the abridgement so I award it four stars. Still my favorite Anna Kavanaugh novel and favorite rave.

I rate the abridged version of Truss a 3 only because after reading the unabridgement with the extra 200+ pages I have to downgrade it a grade! Love the story.
