Wonderful production, with great music, sound, voices. This was my introduction to the series, never having read the stories but always having been intrigued by The Sandman's reputation as a groundbreaking series of graphic novels. I found the stories inventive, a little sordid (definitely not for kids) and a bit of a mixed bag, especially toward the end of the dozen or so disks - though not the final one, which was a treat in itself but especially so for anyone familiar with "A Midsummer NIght' Wonderful production, with great music, sound, voices. The voice actors were uniformly terrific, though special mention goes to Neil Gaiman, James McAvoy and Kat Dennings as the narrator, Morpheus and Death, respectfully.

Absolutely amazing! I’m a long-time fan of the Vertigo comics, and have enjoyed re-reading the graphic novels over the years, but this was a fantastic release - so well directed, imagined, acted and produced. I’m not sure if this will be a good introduction to The Sandman for new readers, as it might be hard to imagine what is happening at times, but for someone who knows the stories and comics, it is a lovely reminder of just how good these books are.

I enjoyed the stories. As this was originally a comic series, it is a set of varied and sometimes interconnected tales involving the Sandman without a clear character arc. Gaiman took the opportunity of his status to enthusiastically cross-pollinate diverse myths, obscure DC superheroes, fairytales, and religions into a harsh yet meaningful mixed reality universe. The storytelling fluctuated between PG root-for-the-bad-guy to intensely disturbing depravity and gore to insightful commentary on belief to what-if historical fiction to quirky indie magical realism - depending on the story being told. The Sandman himself was somewhat inconsistent, as he sometimes cares deeply and shows a wise, thoughtful mind for humans in one story, and yet acts as an entitled misogynistic lord in another. I found there were times I was ready to quit (especially when the depravity was going on a while). Yet the stories as a whole are interesting explorations and at times thought-provoking and very creative. The performances were all fantastic and well-cast, and didn’t draw me out of the story as others have said it did for them. This was not truly an audiobook, but a radio play - and one that was excellently done. I found it captivating and finished it in a few days. Many of the ideas and images still haunt me, for better or worse, and I still feel the charm of the worlds Gaiman created and those he adopted. I am certain I will see some of these characters again on screen or in the Dreaming.

Very fun listen on a road trip with my husband. It moves quickly and we both enjoyed listening to Neverwhere. I will say this is a narrative from a comic book, so we did notice some of the narrative would be digested better as a graphic novel and was harsh as a novel. Specifically the "chapter" where Dr. Dee is in the diner. The translation to a novel was done well as they did include descriptions of the comic book panes to fill you in. Fantastic Production with DC! Incredible Cast/Voices! I was introduced to Neil Gaiman through "The American Gods", and when I finished reading it, I was hooked. Neil has a unique was of telling stories while including history & myths, and has a very straight forward style! I am still speechless of how great and real it was, I truly felt like listening to a movie, and my imagination was a the "movie screen Fantastic Production with DC! Incredible Cast/Voices! Starts off strong but after the vortex story, the story line just meanders. Also, sometimes the background noise is just too much. Overall, though, I did enjoy it!
