It was only a matter for Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, or a close enough facsimile of it, would make their prime Marvel Universe debut. The King of Black cross over event would be the perfect venue for it, and perhaps bring back the rest of the Valkyries as well. I have been largely unimpressed by DC and Marvel's recent 'event' comics. Call it the COVID malaise. Still, this King in Black story seemed worth picking up. I don't know if a five issue series is worth picking up, but that seems to be par for the course, these days. This had a favorite writer (Aaron) not to mention a killer cover by Artgerm. It was a good story, though, so I feel justified. This is a character and universe Aaron is comfortable in, and for me, I like that it felt like a good jump I have been largely unimpressed by DC and Marvel's recent 'event' comics. I will probably see this one out.

I had no intention of getting this tie in, I just wanted the gorgeous Artgerm variant. So here we are. This was actually pretty good. Starts with Jane taking The Sentry to Valhalla and the craziness ensues from there. Now I kinda want to read the rest of this.

Jane Foster is now a Valkyrie? I haven't kept up with the series, so I don't know when this happened. This issue is a part of the King in Black crossover series. I have been picking up various arcs from the crossover. I liked this issue, but I'm still unsure as to what exactly is happening. I want to pick up issue #2 to see if I can fully follow the story. Jane Foster visits Sentry as Sentry was killed by Knull (King in Black Issue #1). They travel into a consciousness? to find the corpse of the Jane Foster is now a Valkyrie? They travel into a consciousness? to find the corpse of the celestial where Knull's ropes start to attack both ghostly Sentry and Jane. Meanwhile, another Valkyrie is drinking and reminiscing about her love Alta. She is trapped in the black ropes planet/celestial where Jane rescues her and they flee. I think I summarized that right? ^ I found this issue a little bit harder to follow. It could be because I haven't kept up with the Valkyries, so I'm going into a series I'm a bit behind in. The art was neat. I would definitely give issue #2 a chance to see where this story goes.

The pacing was a bit off, but the character development was nice. More coming on Comic Years.
