Living in a Paracosm

Availability: Ready to download

You are about to step into an alternative world than the one that you know. And before you enter, bring a pair of flippers, an umbrella, and a great deal appetite for humor. Through your adventure, you'll receive potent doses of satire, humor, sarcasm, logic, and 'what if' scenarios. And if you're lucky, you may even find (and have a conversation with) yourself, there. Livi You are about to step into an alternative world than the one that you know. Living in a Paracosm is an exercise in learning that the same rules do not apply to everything and reason doesn't always reign supreme. What is important is that you be yourself and find your unique voice in life. Written in a lyrical style, not only does the author present a skewed version of reality, but he also elucidates it with an escapist profundity. A fair bit of poems will include illustrations that complete and better explain them and are written to awaken a feeling of wonder within you. The poised rhymes will have you grounded. And yet the artistic intent alludes to an elusive dystopia hinting at the works of Dali or Kahlo combined with the comedy of Bo Burnham. And if you're courageous enough to keep treading the slippery path, you'll experience a myriad of other emotions some of which might be new to you. Philosophical, funny, and sometimes downright obtuse, each poem will reflect distinct humanness and will keep you entertained for a long time.

Living in a Paracosm by Marcus Delzell is a surprisingly insightful collection of poetry, some of which is completely obtuse, but all of which will have you re-examining preconceived notions. Many of the stanzas certainly resonated with me on a personal level, for example: Never light thyself ablaze To keep others warm Powerful in their simplicity, these are words that continue to play in my mind long after I have turned the page. I was thrilled to win this book in a Goodreads giveaway. This little book of poetry was a refreshing read. Some poems were accompanied by a drawing, which was enlightening indeed. Some poems made me giggle, some made me smile, some made me want to sit and think for a while. Some words moved me while some passed me by, but they were chosen carefully and very well, says I. This is a book I just flew through, so thank you Marcus, for sending it to me to review. This one made me laugh and think. Some poems were especially touching for me! I really recommend it, I'm sure you'll enjoy the funny ones as much as the deep ones. Plus the drawings were really good in general! I wish it were a little bit longer though. Thank you so much to Marcus for gifting me a digital copy! This one made me laugh and think. A paracosm is a detailed imaginary world. This book is filled with short poems, many of which are on the edge of a subjective alternative universe. They will make you laugh and think and wonder. They may challenge your ideas.

Many thoughtful things in this book. I believe you are very imaginative and creative people. The illustrations as well as the words were interesting. I feel like the drawing for Go Away is how I feel about 2020. The word puzzle poem was clever. An awesome present to open anytime but it made my Christmas better. Thanks!

This is an interesting mixture of poems. Some make you stop and think, some are funny, a few are maybe just a bit obscene, a lot are completely absurd.... Fitting given the definition of paracosm.
