2.5 stars. This was cute, but honestly there wasn't much conflict here that I could really sink my teeth into. Nicole is the daughter of an overachieving supermodel, who tried modeling, but never achieved her mother's heights, and who has branched out into designing clothes. Flynn is her IT guy and is the ultimate nice guy, which I have to admit was refreshing, but let's face it, doesn't always make for a very interesting story. Nicole is sad and stressed out because she can never live up to her mother's legend. Flynn makes her smile. The two are cute together. They meet each other's respective families. There's an incredibly hackneyed split at the end that is clearly just to create drama the book has sorely lacked and it really felt out of place. Honestly, this book was fairly forgettable. I finished it about a week ago and I can't remember all that much about it. All the good meaty stuff I thought would take place with Nicole's mother and sister really never came to pass, and while I was dying to hear more about her interactions with the father and family she never knew she had, that was really a bit of a let-down in the end too. All in all, I like writing style, but this book just did very little for me. The upside is it didn't do much negative for me, but it did nothing positive for me either. Pretty forgettable, honestly.

I picked this up because I love Megan Bryce's historicals. And I wanted to love this. It's got beauty. And the geek. And they're adorable. But something just didn't really "click" for me: the romance seemed forced and there was no *reason* for them to be together. Like there was no falling. Just pre-fall and then fallen. Anyway, still a well-executed book. Also, I may have to check out the next book because of her half-brother and her best friend. Sigh. 3.75 stars! This book was enjoyable for its simplicity. This is not a serious book although it had scope for seriousness what with the Diva mother and wayward sister of Nicole but it didn't veer there. He was a just a normal guy with an ability to make Nicole laugh and for that alone you could add an extra star. The writing was light , there were a few grammatical errors and sometimes you didn't follow which character was speaking. But overall very fun reading with emotional moments

I grabbed this as a freebie and mostly enjoyed it. I would have liked some more depth. And boo to fade to black sex scenes. The end bugged me. It was free on Amazon and the plot sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try. Urgh.... Where was the story build-up? And the backdrop to the romance? You go from hey let's hook up to ...I am so madly in love. The only part that could be savaged for me where Flynn's parents. The rest was all nonsensical despite the trope potential. Definitely 4 stars for humour, for some funny dialogues. Also, 4 stars for Flynn, IT guy, a charming beta hero. But only 2/3 stars for the rest. A bit too soft, too naive, version of the fashion industry, I think. As a whole, I have an enjoyable reading.

Her laugh and smile stops guys in their tracks. The hero is sweet. Sort off. He works inside of a closet and kind of likes it there. Says he should find a job but doesn’t really. Says he isn’t on the heroines level but somehow doesn’t come off as insecure. When don’t know much about his appearances expect he used to wear glasses. Has extremely nosy parents. His is kind of boring and doesn’t really have much going on for him. No friends are mentioned and seems like he either spends time with his parents or our heroine.

I’ll be honest, this book was pretty average to read. While I have nothing against a cheesy romance novel – in fact, I quite enjoy picking them up when I’m in the mood for some good cheese – this book had been sitting in my collection for a while now. The reason I picked it up was to complete February’s Buzzword Readathon challenge. For February, the prompt was “A Colour”. The reason I picked it up was to complete February’s Buzzword Readathon challenge. For February, the prompt was “A Colour”. While the semantic part of me wants to point out that black isn’t a colour it’s the absence of colour (based on colour and light theory), I’m not going to go there. For this challenge, black is a colour. The characters, while pretty two dimensional most of the time, but could be entertaining when the story called for it. The world of fashion is something that terrifies me, so that aspect of this story pretty much lives up to my expectations of this industry. Being a self proclaimed Nerd/Geek, there wasn’t a lot in this story that called to my inner Nerd/Geek. Not that this was the main point of the story (if it was I probably wouldn’t have read it at all as that cliché is over written), but I expected more of it. That being said, overall it was a cute story. Nothing exceptional happens in it, but it was cute nonetheless. I’ve read novels that were better than this one, and novels that were worse. And I’m talking all genres here, no hate to romance reads – they get too much flack as it is. As an average, run of the mill romance novel, my normal rating would have been a 3. However. I would have rating this story higher than I did, except I really didn’t like the ending. To me, the ending fell flat. I can tell that it was meant to be cute, but it was lacking something to me. It had promise to be something, to peek my interest into seeing how the other romances in this world end up playing out. But it disappointed what little hope I had for it. Because of this, I don’t think I’ll end up continuing on with this series. If I had to choose what kind of person I am, I’d say I’m a Gummy Bear that thinks she’s a Sour Patch Kid.

I’ve never been a fashionista in my life. I would even go so far as to say my only fashion sense is in shoes, but then I look at my earrings...nevermind. Reading about people with fashion problems is normally not something I relate to, but romance books with ‘geek’ in it are very appealing. Overly stressed, kind Nicole works in a fashion company for her mean, supermodel mother. While in the process of launching her first collection Nicole has a bit of a panic attack and this is our ‘meet cute’ scene, where she connects with lovable, bored IT geek Flynn, who works in an IT cupboard in aforementioned company. This aspect of the story reads like real life. I’ve met a few cupboard IT geeks in my work life. The two start to actually talk to each other at work, he designs her website, they make out in the IT cupboard … the rest you need to read yourself. Some romance books describe male geeks as Clark Kent lookalikes, who maybe makes some comments about Marvel or DC. But I really feel Flynn as a character, as his geekiness is not just a facade to get the nerdy girls to read this romance. He actually comes across as an IT person and even though the whole fashion aspect of the book bored me a bit I stuck with it for Flynn and it delivered Flynn … plus family. Who are also adorable by the way.

**Actually 3.5 stars*** Characters Nicole is an interesting character. She was unique and I instantly liked her. Flynn was just adorable - the perfect nerd! The whole opposites attract idiom came into play here. Plot It was an amusing romance. It wasn't just about the romance but the characters came into play. It was interesting to see the take on what it was like to grow up rich and famous. Well to grow up in a house where your mother is rich and famous. Not to mention the whole nerdy jokes from Flynn's side were priceless! The two things I didn't like were the 'conflict' in the middle about Flynn (hated it actually and made me lose all respect for him) and the sort of non-ending ending. Rating 3.5 stars (rounded up) Great romance that I really enjoyed until the last few chapters. Couldn't quite give it 4 stars since it felt a forced near the end but I'll round it up to 4. I think I could of overlooked Flynn's flake moment if there was an actual ending - but it felt rushed. Still love this author though!

Good, wholesome read. This is not what I was expecting when I started this book. Flynn is very comfortable with who he is but doesn't feel like he brings much to the table when it comes to his relationship with Nicole. Throughout the book each is quietly waiting for the other to break their heart. The book progresses at a slow and steady pace with surprises revealed as you go along. At the heart of it all is the strong friendship between three "sisters". As they rally around one another and provide needed encouragement and pushes in the right direction. I loved Gia's movie references to solve the world's problems and can't wait to see if their is a third book for Victoria and Scott.

I’d been reading a lot of heavy thrillers and police procedurals, and wanted something engaging....lighter with punch. There were bits of the book I really enjoyed, but overall, I think it was too light, maybe because of the shorter format. I was finding myself distracted by trying to work out whether Nicole’s sister’s name was Colette or Nicolette, as I couldn’t work out whether this was a typo/missed editing thing or a quirky “World Famous Model” thing, as in Colette being a diminutive for Nic I’d been reading a lot of heavy thrillers and police procedurals, and wanted something engaging....lighter with punch. I found Boring is the New Black funny, adorable and witty. It's a fairly quick read and even though the end was somewhat predictable, I just couldn't put it down. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. The synopsis and cover gave me the impression that this would be a light rom-com. As much as I enjoy humor in my books, this was more than that. This book was okay. It relates the story of Nicole and Flynn. Nicole is a fashion model’s daughter and designer and Flynn is her IT guy. I just felt like I was outside the story the whole time. So funny This book was so so funny! I laughed and laughed all the way through it. Flynn made so many cultural references (revealing my inner geek). Yet this book has some real depth to it, some nuggets of wisdom that even my husband was reading parts of it. Nicole's strength, vulnerability, and love of her friends had me crying at parts, too. This was a fabulous clean romance. Stand alone HEA, with hints of further books to come. Not all my questions were answered, and I'm okay with that. Contain So funny This book was so so funny! I've been trying to find romances I can recommend to my granddaughters. This one isn't one of them. It does feature a strong female protagonist. But though it's not explicit, it's very close to explicit, in describing steamy sexual situations [typically extramarital]. It centers around the fashion industry, with the romantic interest the techie who is helping the protagonist set up an on-line store for her high end designs and clothing. A fun light romance, I liked the main characters and as a parent I sympathise with the issue of where boundaries should be set and what should be choice. I would spare my children every poor decision but recognise they have to live their lives and I can not choose for them. Those who have compliant children do not get it. On finishing this book I read the next and look forward to reading the next in the series.
