Reasonable plot I say a reasonable plot but a trifle contrived as to the origin of the EMP. From that there are quite a few errors as to what works or doesn’t. The first instant was the police radio that was “dead” but with static sounding. A few others but then this is fiction. All in all an American hero cop and a serial killer, hero wins but then what would one expect.

Two books in one The first book is three stars and the second book is five stars. I would love to read a sequel to James Hunt’s book. How do Mike and Katy and Lisa cope with the new reality? There are many unanswered questions at the end. What about town? Will more terrorists invade. And exactly who are the terrorists? What country set off the EMP?

Surviving The Blackout consists of two stories entrenched into a post apocalyptic EMP world. Both storylines feature an adventure focusing on maintaining family security and safety in a chaotic world. The book is well written and maintains your attention with its creativity. Not just a run of the mill apocalyptic story. I chose this rating because the story has lots of action and the plot is very possible. If you want a read to keep your interest, here it is.

Too bad the author has such an issue with Conservatives as I was actually enjoying the book. But its attitudes like he repeats over and over that changed me from a left leaning moderate into a anti-liberal. It’s really a shame because I would have liked to have finished the book.

A Serial Killer During a Disaster The diaspora depicted here is fairly standard but making the primary character a police detective is a great move. The characters are well developed and earn our empathy, especially Mike's damaged veteran sister. Great apocalyptic reading I didn’t realize this was two separate books, thought it was a series but it was still good. Each of them could easily be made into a series because they both end with still so much up in the air. I enjoyed the storylines and the characters.

This is my first time reading this author and overall, he did a good job. I would have liked it better if he’d kept his politics to himself as I enjoy reading as a break from reality. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Somewhat predictable, but very enjoyable story Character development was great! This story shows just how fast prejudice can come to the forefront when faced with adversity.

I think it started well enough but I just couldn’t get past the 30 plus pages of the shoot out at the cabins in the first book. I gave up.
