Fitzpatrick and Donnell two of the brothers went after them supposedly to catch up with the drive on the Trail. Rafferty ( oldest brother Teagan, made Trail boss), Shea ( Forman), their drovers; Phil Barker lead, Cookie and Chuck wagon, The cattle, Hank Fork, Jeb Marsh, Griff Carr, twins from Ireland and great Indian fighters( if needed), Seamus and Frank O'Rielly and rear with the remuda Donald Dill were to meet with the Donnell, Fitzpatrick and maybe Teagan on the Chisholm Trail to Kansas, after they got back their stolen cattle. Few days on the trail, Rafferty finds a wounded woman with an arrow in her shoulder. She had been shot by Indians that turns out to be trading with the Kavanaghs, this was a practice alone the Trail with different tribes. This had been a mistake by one of the young braves, when they came to receive they goods for letting the cattle through their land they gave Mae a Indian pony ( she named Prairie). Mae, was hurt and lost when her father was killed. They were duped by Frederick brothers into believing their cattle were to meet up with the Kavanaghs on the Trail. This was all a lie and Mae, had no idea of the deal her father had gotten them into. She told her story to Rafferty, Cookie, and Shea who told her they were rustled by the Fredericks ( still revenge, their part in helping Julian whom they also duped) and they had stolen part of their herd. Mae was taken on and care for until she healed. Then she worked with Cookie taken care of the Chuck wagon, gathering wood, washing clothes, trying to earn her way. Mean while Rafferty is concerned his brothers hadn't caught up with the rest of their cattle. Mae falls for Rafferty, also perused by Phil. When three men show up looking for outlaws discover a woman in the midst and offered to take her to the nearest Fort, Rafferty didn't trust them and he and Mae were quickly married by one of the men that said he was a Preacher. Times were Rocky for them for Rafferty thought to protect Mae by marrying her, he didn't at first think it was real!! Okay, I'm telling it all read the Kavanagh brothers series you will enjoy! Thanks for sharing one more brother!

This was one action packed story from the very first page until the last page. They start with cattle rustlers stealing part of the herd they were ready to head out on a cattle drive to Abilene, Kansas with. The family must then decide who was going to go on the cattle drive, after the rustlers, and stay protecting the ranch including the wives and children. The decision was made to send Donnell and Fitzpatrick after the rustlers and then for them to meet up with the cattle drive with the retrieved livestock. They chose Rafferty as trail boss with Shea as foreman the two youngest brothers to take the cattle to the trailhead in Abilene for sale. This trip would take two to three months, crossing numerous rivers, going through Indian territory, through canyons, and arid areas just to name a few of the obstacles. Rafferty and Shea felt that it they could pull this off it would put an end to the little brother jokes forever. Not to long into the trip Rafferty found a young woman hiding in the timber line near the trail. She had been shot by an arrow. He took her back to camp, so the cook, Cookie could remove the arrow. Cookie at that point more of less became her babysitter. Each day Rafferty grew to admire Mae more and more. Neither one new how to handle their feels or what do about them. Having a female on the trail with a group of men was a hugh problem and even bigger one in Indian territory. All Rafferty knew for sure was that he liked seeing Mae and he usually managed to say the wrong thing and hurt her feelings. Being trail boss was not as easy as his older brothers made it out to be and he was more than ready to hand the job back over to one of them the next time. This book will more than keep you on the edge of your chair from the first page to the end and there will be no stopping until you finish either. I hope enjoy this wonderful romantic story as much I did. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

They stampede the cattle and Mae's father is killed in the ensuing disaster. She is left alone in the wilds and finds herself at the mercy of some marauding Indians and plays dead. This doesn't stop one from shooting her in the shoulder with an arrow. More pain than she could ever imagine engulfs her. She sees death in her future. Rafferty and the men on his cattle drive find Mae and remove the arrow. She is fast becoming a fixture on the cattle drive, along with finding a small place in Rafferty's heart... Will it grow to a larger place? Rafferty prays that things will come full circle for them and Mae does as well. Attraction is imminent and so is danger. You will love the outcome of this story. The cast of characters fits together perfectly and the epic backdrop of the old west. I love Kathleen Balls books and this one does not disappoint!

In this book 9 of the Kavanagh brothers’ stories, the focus is on Rafferty. Rafferty is chosen to lead the cattle drive for the first time because there was so much chaos going on at the ranch. Yet something about her made him hesitate about leaving her in one of the towns they passed. And she likewise had no intention of being dumped anywhere. She was determined to stay by his side! When a female in their midst started some potential troubles, Rafferty “pretended” to marry Mae to protect her. There’s another surprise coming to him when he finds something out about his “fake marriage”… oops. I enjoyed this book. There was so much more going on, but you can already guess that Mae didn’t make this an easy journey for Rafferty. But she made herself useful and knew exactly what she wanted. They were good for each other. Will it last?

Rafferty: Cowboy Trail Boss This story was just another fine example of Ms Ball’s stories, now including, Rafferty, next to the youngest Kavanaugh brother. His first time. Taking the cattle drive to Abilene. Younger brother Shea was also with him. Between bartering with the different Indian tribes, finding an injured woman with an arrow in shoulder, and stampedes of the cattle, this story kept you on edge, waiting to see what happens next. Enjoy, excited to read next brother’s story, Shea.

This was a wonderful story and addition to the Kavanagh Brothers series. Mae and Rafferty have a wonderful story and it was nice to see how they worked it out. I loved the fact we got to see the older brothers again and hear a bit about them and I loved the epilogue. While each book is a standalone, I plan to read all the books in the series. I've read Teagan and Angus's stories and now I've read Rafferty's also. I look forward to reading Shea's story. Another wonderful book in the Kavanagh Family Saga with Rafferty and Mae. He is trail boss on a cattle drive when they come across Mae who has been shot with a arrow by indians so he helps her. The Fredricks Brothers are the same people that killed her father and also stole some of the Kavanagh cattle so begins the sweet relationship between Rafferty and Mae. Love all of Kathleen Ball books and look forward to the next one.

Rafferty: Cowboy Trail Boss is the ninth book in The Kavanagh Brothers series and is a sweet western romance. I love this story and this series of Christian historical western romances. Rafferty and Mae are charming characters who have a very rocky road to romance. This road is paved with cattle rustlers, an arrow incident, danger, suspense, and romance. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

The ninth book in The Kavanagh Brothers series a well written story with a very good storyline, the story flowed smoothly across the pages. To date this is my favorite of this series. I enjoyed reading Rafferty and Mae's story, he had a lot of searching his heart before he realized what she was to him. There is suspense, drama, danger, rustlers, Indians, hardship, and romance. Shea's story looks like it is going to be another great one can not wait for it to be out. This was the first book that I have read from this author and was not sure what to expect. So I was going in open minded. In the first couple of pages I was not so sure that this was going to be my kind of book, but I am really glad that I kept going. I really enjoyed reading this book. This book not only had romance, but suspense and mystery as well.
