This was a fun set up to the series. I loved Lucella. She is in her forties, divorced, an empty nester and a confident size sixteen. She bakes when nervous and whips up all kinds of glutton free desserts. A new town mural with possible clues to her new powers leads her to an old love. We get a side of romance while Lucella tries to figure out what is happening to her. She tests her powers and learns how to deal with her animal friends. Her friends are supportive, but we soon learn they are keeping secrets. Her momma is one strange bird and we soon learn why. The story feels like a cozy as we try to figure out what is happening to and around our protagonist. Not sure if the series will feature her friends next or continue with Lucella. Either way, I am curious enough to return to Sparkle Beach. Xe Sands narrates and was perfect for capturing the light vibe of this tale and each of the unique characters. I’ve enjoyed her narrations before, and she offers a wide range of female and male voices while capturing the tone of the overall story. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

This book surprised me from the second I started it to the last page and for the longest time I didn't know whether I even liked it. I ended up more than liking it however, because it brings a fresh and unique twist to the Paranormal Women's Fiction genre, well to the supernatural mystery genre in general, to be honest. My only misgivings with this book is that it's basically one long world establishing chapter. It sets us up for future books and I am excited to see what they will face. I am not twenty-five years old. But i read a lot of books with twenty somethings thinking they will never meet mr.right while somehow working at their dream job. So I find it very refreshing when a strong female lead is my age, has baggage and a writer who knows it's never too late to try something new. Luella needs a new job, misses her daughter, and tries not to bother anyone. Magic helps those who helps themselves?? I enjoy all of Kate Moseman's novels, she writes with creativity and heart, and I am not twenty-five years old. It was ok This just wasn’t the book for me. I did finish it. The writing was a little corny, the storyline staggered, and the plot was lacking. I feel like with a little more effort, this book could be good. With a lot, it could be great.

Pleasantly surprised by this book. This was my first time listening to one of Kate Moseman's work, and I was taken aback by how much I liked her style. Three 40+ Friends Finally Find Their Magic This is an easy reading story about three friends, in their forties, who discover their magical abilities when one of the three, Luella, gets fired from her job. Good writing, few editing errors and an overall imaginative story but missing that edge. I would have liked to see the characters have more depth, everything felt too superficial and pat. Good writing, few editing errors and an overall imaginative story but missing that edge. I would have liked to see the characters have more depth, everything felt too superficial and pat. As the reader I didn’t experience any feelings of tension or malevolence needed at pivotal moments even when Raphael is thrown from the wall. The concept of the story is creative, for example, the wings on the wall was a fantastic idea so it was disappointing that the connection between Raphael and Luella’s wings wasn’t further explored. Raphael could have explained his feelings about the wings as he painted them, what his inspiration was, what he felt seeing them transformed from wall art to reality; he could have asked to touch them to compare them to his imaginings and to question if he could do that with other paintings. Reading about that would have given me, the reader, better visuals of what the wings looked like while giving Raphael more depth. Exploring Luella’s childhood with her Mama (who’s initial description is so intriguing) would have gone far to give Mama three dimensional form rather than her just being a woman with no personality who rides a motorcycle. On the plus side, literally, I was impressed with the author using the dress purchase for the art show to reveal that Luella was a proud size 16 and I liked the way she allowed the character to embrace her body and sensuality without regrets. I think this was the first time (in hundred of books) I have ever read this so congratulations on empowering the larger size woman. A promising writer who is unfurling her own wings and will be flying higher as more books are written.

Halfway through your life and you have a midlife crisis, that is normal right?! What if halfway through your life, you get magical powers? Wouldn’t that be interesting? The Midlife Elementals Series is not your typical fantasy or paranormal fiction, but it does have some entertaining ideas and brings originality to readers. Luella works at Suntan Queen, in the Marketing Department, heck she started that department, but now its bad news bears for her. Luella works at Suntan Queen, in the Marketing Department, heck she started that department, but now its bad news bears for her. She’s been ousted without a rhyme or reason to justify the cause for a firing, but out of a job and with a daughter in college, Luella’s life couldn’t possibly get any worse, could it? Just when anxiety and her nerves can’t handle anymore stress, something happens to her and two of her friends. What she can only presume to be magic, they begin to see strange things like a flying silver dog and lifelike murals that seem like they can leap off the walls…literally! Luella and her friends soon realize they’ve been gifted with elemental magic, but what now? There is still the whole “no job” and “bills to pay” for Luella, and with the additional stress of finding out where these new powers came from, the three women are taken by surprise to find that the answers may be closer than they think. Moseman’s first installment is alluring with elemental magic at play and creativity, but lacks a bit of character development. There are a lot of questions that were left unanswered, or open-ended with no resolve in sight. Some of the characters were rushed in scenes and the full scope of personality or back-story would be more compelling to a reader of this genre. Sands is sensational, with her southern drawl and charm. She livens up the characters and gives the story vibrancy while keeping an acceptable pace. Since this was an audiobook, the review does not critique spelling or grammatical errors; however, by the fluency in narration, it appears the story is well-written and a reader would have little to no issues if reading rather than listening is preferred. With this being the first installment in the Midlife Elementals Series, readers and listeners alike can dive right in. An audiobook was provided to Turning Another Page by Audiobookworm Promotions and in no way affects the honesty of this review. We provide a four-star rating to Silver Spells by Kate Moseman.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a paranormal story that’s more fun than angst, and Silver Spells showed me that I really need to make a point of reading them regularly. This one has been great for relaxing, for a bit of escapism. In this crazy world we find ourselves in, it’s nice to imagine how a bit of magic could make things better. Silver Spells gives us empty nester Luella Campbell. I can certainly identify with that, and it was refreshing to find a book with a main character closer to my own age. I also enjoyed Luella’s relationship with her mother and how she still needed and valued her mother’s advice – perhaps even more so with everything going on in her life. This is the first in the Midlife Elementals series, so a lot of the book introduces the characters and the world the author has created. That’s not to say there isn’t a storyline; there certainly is. What I’m getting at is I enjoyed it all. The world-building is done organically – we learn about this world along with Luella, so we’re not dealing with big info dumps, which is a big plus, in my opinion. This author is also handy with wit and funny quips, which is great for keeping a good pace. The story caught me a little off guard with its flowery prose, and I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure about all the Southern witticisms at first. Even as a Southern girl myself, they seemed to be a bit over the top. By the time I made it through a handful of chapters, it wasn’t a thing at all. It just felt like that was Luella, and I didn’t expect any different, which I think comes down to a combination of Kate Moseman’s character building and Xe Sands’ narration. Speaking of, I think this is my first experience with Xe Sands, but it won’t be my last. I don’t think Kate Moseman could’ve chosen a more perfect voice for Luella. She lent a charm to the character that I feel may have been missing with a different voice. The more I listened, the more I felt like I was hearing Luella. All in all, Silver Spells is a witty and fun introduction to a promising series. There’s magic, friendship, family, a bit of romance, and even some danger as a taste of the possibilities for where this series might go. I will definitely be watching for whatever comes next.

The story grabbed my attention right from the start, it is the type of book you do not want to out down because you want to know what happens next. It is the first book of the series so it also lays out the foundation for the rest of the series. The characters are likable and easy to relate to and connect with, Luella Campbell, was an ordinary woman working an office job as a media specialist one minute then an unemployed woman the next with strange things happening all around her. Turns out she is not alone, the same thing is happening to her two friends. I loved the premise of this book, not your average midlife crisis here, just three women coming into their own, that is their own magical powers. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, some wonderful humor, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions and some romance. Kate Moseman, thank you for this enjoyable and entertaining story, I am looking forward to what comes next as you continue to build up this magical world with these fabulous characters. 🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Xe Sands is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. She brings these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. Her portrayal of each character is spot on, she grasps each character’s persona and plays the role with perfection, sounding believable and just as I picture them to sound. She sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the fabulous listen🎧

I like paranormal woman fiction a lot and was looking forward to this one. The plot picked me up right away in the first chapter. Not only a relationship can be an anchor in life, a job too. The magic was fascinating, but there could have been more and different reactions from the characters. The story has a sweet romance - it's not very dominant and made me smile. I liked the way the plot went and how it developed. Unfortunately, the problems are solved a little too quick and smooth for my personal taste. The voice of Xe Sands is a perfect cast. She is excellent at portraying the characters. Overall, it was a cozy and entertaining story with interesting characters.

Good A cute and quirky story, about a forty-something, who suddenly finds herself gifted with an unusual ability! Part paranormal women’s fiction, part rom-com, this book is a quick read, and the first in a series. It will be interesting to see what more is in store for the ride-or-die witches! Bring On The Power Magic can be fun. After a series of traumatic events in her life, Luella discovers that she has magic. She is not freaked out about it and embraces the beauty and joy of it. She meets an old love and experiences feelings long absent. Why does someone keeps messing with her? I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to another book.
