A bit repetitive like its original work but like its original work full of useful information. I enjoyed the parts about empathy, meaning what you say, and allowing children the opportunity to struggle through their emotions without you always having to guide them. I also especially enjoyed the idea of letting kids work out their problems with other kids on their own.

What a great book! The chapters are laid out in a logical and easy-to-follow format, with so many examples and practical applications for each principle. I highly recommend if you have children or even just want to have children in the future. It's a great way to start off preparations!

Good to have some basics reinforced, but I didn't feel I learned anything revolutionary... the book talked both about setting keeping your own boundaries with your kids (like, I will play with you for 20 mins and then I'm done, because I'm my own human, not your personal entertainer)(that's my own example) as well as the importance of setting boundaries on their behalf (=expected behaviour and consequences)(like, if your toys are still on the loungeroom floor when you go to bed I will confiscate Good to have some basics reinforced, but I didn't feel I learned anything revolutionary... the book talked both about setting keeping your own boundaries with your kids (like, I will play with you for 20 mins and then I'm done, because I'm my own human, not your personal entertainer)(that's my own example) as well as the importance of setting boundaries on their behalf (=expected behaviour and consequences)(like, if your toys are still on the loungeroom floor when you go to bed I will confiscate them; their example) The phrase "within age appropriate limits" was used a lot, I wish these age appropriate limits were defined for me!! Finally, I felt like the biblical basis for the approach was a bit forced and lacking in Grace. I definitely believe this parenting approach is more defined by culture and justified with the Bible than vice versa, in which case just leave the Bible out of it.

Great ideas and suggestions to help your kids grow up to be we’ll adjusted, responsible, and kind adults. I’ve been utilizing some of it this week and things have been much better at home.

Highly recommend to all parents out there! I love the biblical backing up of the guidelines of this book. It always turns you back to scripture to help form a good foundation.

Excellent book! The best most practical parenting book that I have read. I read it about 5 years ago when my kids were preschoolers, and I just read it again. I highly recommend this book.

Nothing earth shattering or new to me. Just good reminders to have boundaries and expects from your kids. The goal is to make them functional, kind adults.

There's some solid content in here that I'd like to underline and re-read. I was surprised by the amount of religion thrown into it but it was fine.

This book was awful. No clever, well written review. The book was horrible. It's very 90's Christian and incredibly sexist. The examples are all fabricated - no one can accurately quote paragraphs years later. The authors are quick to point out how they have never been wrong, ever. There is a very dated look at family life and exceptionally redundant. The two authors are big fans of the golden rule even though we should really have moved on by now. The entire book could be summed up with "give kids boundaries so girls grow up to be quiet, dutiful mothers and boys grow up to stay away from drugs, because drugs kill." I'll stop sharing my thoughts and instead just share some of the top quotes. "The mother who says, 'You'll eat your peas and like them!' is headed for disappointment. Even Jesus dreaded his most horrible task: dying for our sins." "Let me speak a word here to single parents: God designed the job of nurturing and rearing kids to two parents"
