Original Review at Jaunts & Haunts 4/5 I gave this short story four stars! This is my first time reading this author's work, and it was very good!  The blurb pretty much explains the gist of the story, but in a nutshell, a son moves away from his mother and her crazy occult conspiracies only for her to contact him years later spouting the same insane ideas. Jason makes moves to ensure her mental health, but soon learns that everything may not be what it seems. I really liked this story.  For me, the m Original Review at Jaunts & Haunts 4/5 I gave this short story four stars! Jason makes moves to ensure her mental health, but soon learns that everything may not be what it seems. I really liked this story.  For me, the main thing was the writing. It was expertly done, didn't have any purple prose, and was exciting. Jason's POV was handled well and I think a lot of people can sympathize with his plight. We all have that relative that we just can't stand for various reasons. We got a little bit of depth and backstory to Jason's life when he was younger, and I think it fleshed out the story without feeling info dumpy. Very hard to do with a short story, so major props to the author there. Oh, and his mom? Creepy and a bit batshit crazy, which really intrigued me. There was an element of mystery about her that I enjoyed. I had a bad feeling from the start. The horror itself didn't necessarily dominate the whole way through, but it's definitely there, and I think the author approached this in the right way.  I honestly don't have any complaints with this story. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that I wasn't completely blown away, but this is an extremely solid story, and I look forward to reading more from this author.  Definitely recommend this story!

A man institutionalizes his mother with dire results. The mother has seemingly become more unhinged after dabbling with the occult. Is it just a manifestation of severe mental illness or is something more insidious afoot? This is a short read. I didn't find it especially scary largely because the characters are not in the least bit endearing or engaging. Similarly, the horror portion is vague and broad. Not my fave. Sweet, short, and creepy. This creepypasta type short story reminded me a little of the movie/screenplay Birdbox. Well-written, though a bit predictable. Made me want to look up the "book" or scripture mentioned at the end, but it seems to be just as fictious as the story itself. I wish it was real, because I'd definitely want to read it, as well. Overall, this would make a great campfire tale. Sweet, short, and creepy. This creepypasta type short story reminded me a little of the movie/screenplay Birdbox. Isn't Scary I know this is a short story and though I was intrigued by the premise, I found it to be rather lacking as it did not scare me and the characters were blah. Not great I know this was a short story but it took more than half the book to get started and then ended with no explanation. Unfortunately, a waste of time.

Loved it! This was a great story by a great writer. I was really surprised to see how original the authors writing was. He didn’t go for generic terminology when describing situations he seems to have his own voice it was not only refreshing it was scary and although short it really hit the mark when it comes to craving horror. I can’t wait to read more by this author. So many books do you have any authors name and no one would be the wiser that is not the case with this one I can’t express how Loved it! Short stories always leave me wanting more. This story is well written and it builds up to a very tense ending. However, I was left with questions... Wondering if there was more to the actual story. This story is about a guy and his mentally ill mother that isn't so mentally ill. It has aspects of horror to it... But it left me with so many questions. Short stories always leave me wanting more. This story is well written and it builds up to a very tense ending. However, I was left with questions...
