Yes! I recommend this book. It is a well-written, relatable book that’s like getting a personal pep talk from a friend, with the talks concluding with heart-felt prayers. In the 17 chapters, she covers careless, negative, anxious, self-critical, critical of others, fearful, idolatrous, guilty, discontent, impure, painful, defeated, regretful, angry, unforgiving, self-focused, and untrue thoughts. The last chapter wraps them all up perfectly with a verse that sums up the entire book. Sarah Gering Yes! I recommend this book. Sarah Geringer shares her personal struggles with such thoughts before sharing Scriptures to combat these thoughts. She encourages us with her successes and illustrations of transformation and reminds us how it’s a lifelong quest. We improve, but there are times when we need to refresh ourselves with another long drink from Scripture. She explains how to meditate on the verses. I love reading books with lots of Scripture because just reading them brings hope and encouragement, plants the seeds of change. Now, that I’ve finished the book and highlighted it once, I’m going to go back and use it with my daily devotions to meditate longer on the verses she provides. Then, after those are well established in my thought patterns, I will continue on to add verses of my own. I see this book as a handy companion to read over and over. We can read it in order or go to the chapter that highlights a current struggle and stay there for a while. This book provides the tools to restructure your thought life, thus changing your outlook, mood, life course. Because, where your thoughts are, you shall follow.

I love how she shares that now, after years of intentional practice, she can frequently rein in her negative thoughts and replace them with Scripture of God’s promises. Sarah writes like you are sitting down to coffee in your best friend’s kitchen. Like she’s known you your whole life. She finishes each chapter with a heartfelt prayer, additional verses to study, and discussion questions. Throughout each chapter she references many verses and shows how those verses can help train your thought life into consistent, positive, God-filled thoughts. Across 17 chapters, Sarah discusses how to overcome angry thoughts, fearful thoughts, negative thoughts, and untrue thoughts, among others. She talks about how she has overcome these types of thoughts, how she works though each type, and how she has worked to memorize Scripture and call out to God in times of negativity. Transforming Your Thought Life shows how Christians can use meditation to grow in their Spiritual walk with Christ. Sarah shows that meditation isn’t a bad word or a bad action, but rather highly beneficial to thinking positive, Christ-filled thoughts and how it can help us memorize Scripture and pull that Scripture to the front lines when in battle (with our thoughts). I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who wants to deepen their faith and walk with Christ.

Sarah Geringer did a great job in identifying 17 different kinds of thought-patterns that have a negative influence and are obstacles for spiritual growth and maturity. For example careless, guilty, self-critical, painful, impure, defeated, angry and other kinds of thoughts. For each of these kinds, Sarah shows a tailor-made strategy for overcoming and transformation consisting of Bible verses addressing the specific thoughts, biblical truths on which to focus and ways to apply them in different situations. With great insight and wisdom, Sarah Geringer addresses also the underlying issues and roots that provoke such thoughts. This is a book pointing to God and His love and truths, giving hope and encouragement that change is possible by learning to focus on and meditate on the Word of God. What makes this book special and very helpful is Sarah’s way to relate to the reader. Her tone is friendly, compassionate and encouraging. This is not just theory; these are reflections of biblical truths put in practice. In every chapter Sarah shares examples from her own life, captivating the reader with her stories, honesty, and transparency. A great book, which I only can recommend!

I love this book! It has really made me dig back in scripture and prayer. I love how she focuses so much of her thoughts on scripture. It is so hard sometimes to even find good Christian books that do that as well as Sarah does. If you are struggling with any negative thoughts or your spiritual life, I definitely recommend. Even if you don't think you are struggling, it is always good to keep refocusing your thoughts!

Although Sarah Geringer has written several books, I had not heard of her until one of my friends mentioned being on her book launch team. I value my friends opinion so I decided to join the launch team and read Sarah's book. I could not be more thankful for that decision. Sarah's book has completely changed my perception on what Christian meditation is and how to go about it. In the first chapter Sarah talks about having careless thoughts, which is something we all struggle with, but then she talks about taking each thought captive...and how to do it. Not only is this an informative book, it is also a how-to book, which is the best kind. She is teaching us to put into practice what we are learning, as we are learning, and teaching us to transform our own lives through the power of Scripture. By writing her book in this manner it has made it a much more powerful book and one that you will want to go back to again and again. If you struggle with negative (anxious, impure, discontent etc) thoughts and what to do about them, then this is the book for you! Instead of continually knocking ourselves down, this book shows us how to take those self-defeating thoughts and turn them into positive thoughts, meditating on Scriptures in the areas that we struggle with.

Sarah Geringer fills her book with honest and transparent struggles from her own thought-life highs and lows – and what God is doing to transform her thinking. She explains, “You have an average of 60,000 thoughts every day, and up to 80 percent of those thoughts are negative. Almost all of today’s thoughts are recycled from yesterday’s negative thoughts. To stop this negative cycle, you must replace your negative thoughts with positive thoughts rooted in God’s Word.” Paul wholeheartedly agrees in Sarah Geringer fills her book with honest and transparent struggles from her own thought-life highs and lows – and what God is doing to transform her thinking. If you would like to dive deep into the HOW of taking every thought captive to obey Christ, then this book is just the ticket. No matter what kind of thought-issues you personally wrestle with, Sarah covers them all. She has 17 chapters, each covering a different problem area like anxious thoughts, guilty thoughts, self-critical thoughts, regretful thoughts, etc. And yes, you can read them out of order if you like. The best part of each of those chapters? Sarah gives you a list of specific verses to meditate on and memorize for each problem area. Sarah weaves throughout her book the truth that we cannot change our thoughts on our own. God has to change us from the inside out. This book takes us on that journey.

Ms Geringer tackled a topic that at times puts the faith community in fear and trepidation! MEDITATION! But she hits the nail on the head right from the start, "You may be skeptical about the word meditation because of its association with New Age and Eastern religions..." Bam! She continues explaining that meditation is simply the practice of thinking about scripture and communing with God. Perfect, Sarah, perfect. Sarah Geringer’s new book, Transforming Your Thought Life, is teaching me to redeem meditation as a Christian disciple. We do this by memorizing and meditating on God’s Word. I would definitely recommend this book for any woman desiring to take her thoughts captive and break free of unhealthy thinking.

This is why I wanted to read Transforming Your Thought Life by Sarah Geringer, and to be honest, I am so thankful that I did. The great thing about this book is that it covers ALL negative thoughts, quite frankly ones that I hadn't even considered. Thoughts that are untrue, self-critical, angry, regretful, fearful, impure, etc. Using real life examples, the author was able to pinpoint how her negative thoughts had taken root in and affected her life, and how the practice of meditating on scripture was able to change her focus. Knowing that I had this book as a resource during some of my own thought-life struggles, was a true blessing to me. At one point, I was able to identify myself going down a rabbit-hole of 'thoughts that criticize others' and by reading the book, along with the suggested scriptures, I stopped the negative thoughts from continuing. And I love the reminder from page 231: "essentially every thought-life struggle described in this book is rooted in untruth. The enemy is the father of lies, accusing us with untruths every day. We must deliberately sidestep his untruths and choose God's truth in our thought life through Christian meditation". If you are scared of the word meditation, don't be. It's simply the practice of reading scripture and storing it deep inside your soul; to be used at a moment's notice, combating any negative thoughts that try to come your way. You've got this!

Designed as an introductory work for women, and focused on meditation on Scripture and prayer. Not a general work on meditation in a Christian perspective. **-galley reviewed as part of early review program
