This book is a prequel to the reaper series. The book was only 14 chapters in the Rebels and Renegades collection. There is 4 books in this series. This book is great!! Had me on edge until the end. I just hated where it ended. It was a cliffhanger and I HATE them lol. Over all great book!!

Reaper: The Beginning by Jen L. Grey is the prequel to the Artifact Reaper Saga. In this book, the author gives us the story of Beth, Christina’s best friend, and Charlie’s little sister. This is the story of how Beth died. I have to say that I was overjoyed to finally learn what exactly happened to Beth. When I first started reading this series that was something that I really wanted to know especially in light of the fact of how heavily Charlie blamed Christina for it. I have to say that I was overjoyed to finally learn what exactly happened to Beth. When I first started reading this series that was something that I really wanted to know especially in light of the fact of how heavily Charlie blamed Christina for it. I have to say this though…I was totally wrong about Beth. It seems that Christina holds Beth up on a pedestal, a place she really doesn’t belong. In my opinion. I initially had moments of struggling to like Christina because of her attitude in the Reaper saga, but Beth is a character that I’m not too keen on at this point. I enjoyed this story immensely, but Beth just irritated me more often than not. I honestly view Charlie’s anger at Christina completely misplaced because Beth is nothing but trouble. She puts herself and everyone around her in danger by defying the Council. For me, she’s a very selfish, self-centered character. I applaud Christina for trying to be the voice of reason in this book. Seeing how Christina handled things makes me actually like her more. I get that Beth is her “best friend” but Beth is the bad influence. The author is absolutely linking pieces of this puzzle together between the Prequel and the main Saga because I have specific questions that are getting disturbing answers but are also making me anticipate the next book in this series. Something big is going down and there are more players involved than I originally thought. Setting aside my overall disdain for Beth, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The story moves quickly, smoothly and gave me insight into both Beth and Christina and how Beth’s “untimely” death came about. The author points out quite a few interesting factors in this story that raises questions, answer some and make me eager for more. If you’ve enjoyed the Reaper saga so far and want to learn what happened to Beth grab this book.

If you haven't read Reaper of the Earth yet then I highly recommend starting with this book. It is great to see what happened to Beth and caused the events that happened from there with Christina. This series will keep you on your toes wondering just what will happen next and this book is where the ball starts rolling. This series is full of suspense, action, and the fight between good and evil. The problem is figuring out who is good and who is evil. Read to find out. A great look at all the players in the game! I loved meeting Beth and seeing several of my favorite characters pre-Reaper and getting to know them before everything was set in motion. The author did a great job of helping you understand what drives each character and the story dynamics affecting them. I also appreciated finally knowing what happened to Beth. A worthwhile addition to the Reaper series!

Reaper: The Beginning was an interesting prequel. It tells the story of Beth, Christina's best friend, and what happens the eventful night often eluded to in the main Artifact Reaperseries. Beth is definitely an interesting character. She, like Christina, seems to have trouble with her reaper powers--though most likely for different reasons. She is also a bit reckless, but very loyal to her brother and best friend. Christina, on the other hand, felt a bit different to me than she did in the main Reaper: The Beginning was an interesting prequel. I am not sure if this is a result of it being a 1st person account told from Beth's point-of-view or because the events of this story change Christina so much by the time of the events in Reaper of Earth. It seems, that at one time, Christina was considered a better fighter. Either way, it was good to read Beth's backstory to better understand what Christina has gone through. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the urban/paranormal fantasy--especially to those who have read at least Reaper of Earth. I imagine it could be read as a standalone, but I think those already familiar with the main story will get more out of it.

It was so nice to meet Beth! And meet her meet her, not just read about her through Christina's memories or Charlie's memories. She's a very well written character and I feel like she was an excellent counter part for Christina. What an exciting story! This was a good short read that gives some good background on the relationship between Christina and Charlie for the rest of the series. Beth is spunky and you can’t help but love her too!!

I really enjoyed finding out what happened to Beth. Pieces fall into place from the first 2 books. It's going to be interesting to see where this series goes. This book is short and sweet. It is from Beth's point of view not Christina's. Since they act super similar, that threw me for a few scenes but we get to learn a lot more about Christina too during this book. I think it should be called book 0 in the set and not book 5 as it's a full on prequel with no jump to anything that happens later in the series, but that's just personal opinion. I really enjoyed reading this book. It tells the story from Beth's POV, and we discover she is definitely one of a kind judging from the other reapers around her. The short prequel novella that concentrates on Beth shed much light on the background story and answered many (but not all) questions the reader definitely has when reading the main series. For a relatively short story, the novella is packed with tension, action, and lots of contradictory emotions that pull the reader in and create an instantaneous connection to the two girls in the forefront. I read the book in one evening, it was a very fast read, and now I am curious when and how the remaining questions will be answered in the upcoming books of the main series.

This book by Jen L Grey is an amazing book definitely worth reading. Cristina and her friend Beth tend to always find themselves in situations that could get them in a lot of trouble. This prequel was an excellent addition to the Reaper saga. It helped fill in some of the gaps, and answered some of my lingering questions raised from the actual series itself. I really appreciated the look into Beth and who she was. Overall, this was a quick, fun introduction to the world of the reapers.
