Love a book I can't put down! This one will make you loose sleep, I promise. Pike paints one great disaster scene in your head after another during this tale, and just when you think you can't possibly survive this time, she shows you how. I highly recommend this story. I'm a big fan of Chris Pike as an Author. Her other series have kept me fascinated with her character development and the scope of the world she creates. Stand Your Ground promises to continue that excellence and I really look forward to the coming books in this series. America is hit with germ warfare and millions die. Ella Strong is one of the survivours, and along with her sister and some others she meets along the way, she sets out to get to her uncles farm, a safe haven for her and her sister. I enjoyed this for the most part, but there were a few things I struggled with. I found parts of the plot to be.... hard to believe. Some of them are spoilers so I won't discuss them here but one part was where one of the secret service men put on a gas mask and runs America is hit with germ warfare and millions die. Some of them are spoilers so I won't discuss them here but one part was where one of the secret service men put on a gas mask and runs away from Air Force One. The plane takes off and then crashes. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that if that happened, the other SS would be worried and double check the plane. There were other things I just found hard to believe which stopped me from totally loving it. I liked Ella, she was well written and developed and easy to connect with. I liked that we get to see her when she's older! She is telling this story to a reporter so we get a back and forth timeline. The rest of the characters were well written too, which is the main reason I kept reading. In all, this was a good start, and I am eager to read the next one to see what happens! Becket Royce read this well. She was clear and easy to listen to and gave a good performance. The only thing was that her tones for some characters were very similar and it was easy to lose track of who was talking. I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Love it, love it,love it!!! What a fantastic book, beautifully written with characters that grab you right from the beginning. They literally reach out of the page, grab you and carry you along with them on their perilous journey. I loved the way the book was narrated by the main character and it was really refreshing to be aware more or less right from the start exactly what had caused the disaster that hit the U.S., a very believable disaster I might add, and why it happened. The next book in the series can't come quick enough for me, I really need to know what happens next to Ella & co

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I was a little afraid that this would be a macho,"murica" chest thumping Texans type of story but it was nothing of the sort, mostly based on the title. The writing was good and generally flowed well and I liked the construct of the aging main character retelling her story for historical preservation. There were times of a bit of a slow down especially in Ella's interaction with Theodore in the interview. I also liked that the President was not an ev I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. High-octane and pulse-pounding? Maybe not. It’s not a bad story, but it’s nothing to get all excited about. Stand Your Ground is an average survival tale, but there’s not a lot of information on who or why or certainly not how the virus or whatever it is spread so far so quickly. Ella Strong is a decent character with enough background that you get to know her fairly well. Narration by Becket Royce is excellent and she is one of my favorite female narrators. This is another unfinished story. It doesn't end in a cliffhanger, exactly, but it's obvious there's more to the story. It's typical post-apocalyptic suspense, some parts more believable than others. The characters are fairly well developed, but rather flat. Becket Royce delivers an outstanding performance. I hope to have the opportunity to review future books in this series. NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Stand your ground a good motto for all of us I really enjoyed both the story and Chris' writing style. This is a troubled time for our nation and as a handicapped veteran, it makes me glad and proud to read stories like this. Chris? F bombs and adult situations don't bother me, for like Ella, I have seen and heard much worse and these things are a part of real life. I respect your dedication to your fans and I won't stop reading your wonderful stories. Stand your ground a good motto for all of us I really enjoyed both the story and Chris' writing style. Great apocalyptic book with a new twist! I have a hard time reviewing everything I read because I read so much but this book was really awesome so I'm taking time to tell everyone if you like apocalyptic fiction and you like a little twist thrown in this book doesn't disappoint. Can't wait for more in this series. Great apocalyptic book with a new twist! At a standstill I enjoyed the pace of this book and the characters. It was a short story to read so it could have done with some more details. The plot seemed a little juvenile in parts. I prefer things to be a little more believable. But all in all I enjoyed the read and would read part 2 if it comes out to find out what happens to the rest of the characters in the book.

Intriguing! A new concept on terrorism and survival. I can’t wait to learn more about Ella’s survival, along with what happens to Kyle and May!!! The editing is superior, and the clean language make Chris Pike’s books a super pleasure to read.

Strong book! I liked the mix of sci-fi and suspense. Not crazy about books that hop back and forth 50 years but the story is interesting enough to endure that technique authors seem to love. Counting the days until book 2 now.

An intriguing story, a mixture of sci-fi and end of the world. It is sad to say that this could be a true story. It is a crazy world today with threats coming from all directions. This is a story of courage and great moral fiber.

Great story in a new series! This author continues to improve with each new book. The books are well-researched and well-written with engaging characters. The new series also has a strong female protagonist as the main character. I look forward to Book 2!

The beginning of another awesome series from Chris Pike! Her characters are always dynamic, and that’s true here. In an untenable position, our protagonist just wants to survive. That’s it. Will they? At least one survives, maybe!

I bought this book after reading the good reads reviews but I wish thatI hadn't. It's a mess and one of the worst books I've ever read. I don't usually do reviews but this book is so bad I thought it might be a spoof. Do not waste your time and money. I bought this book after reading the good reads reviews but I wish thatI hadn't. Stand Your Ground The story's woven mat of mystery and all-out action unravelled slowly but surely, leaving lots of area for my imagination to explore. I'll be sure to snatch up the next book. Pretty good book This story line has a lot of possibilities. It uses some sci fi mixed in with dystopian fiction. It could have been way longer and some of the action needed to be thought out a little better. But overall it was a good read.

I'll bite I first read Pike's work surrounding an EMP and I've been following him ever since. I'm not a big sci-fi reader so I can't scrutinize the bio warfare aspect but I found it believable enough. Keeping with the canine companion theme was a plus.
