A minor accident at a German nuclear power plant, a Biological Warfare attack on the British Embassy in Washington, This box set of award-winning naval warfare thrillers from Jeff Edwards includes all three books of the USS Towers series: Sea of Shadows, The Seventh Angel, and Sword of Shiva. THE BOOKS: Sea of Shadows (Book #1) The only way to survive is to change the rules. A minor accident at a German nuclear power plant, a Biological Warfare attack on the British Embassy in Washington, DC, and a secret arms deal combine to drive a trusted NATO Ally into an illegal alliance with a rogue Middle Eastern state. With the world hovering on the brink of war, a handful of U.S. Navy warships must track down and destroy a wolfpack of state-of-the-art submarines. The adversary is skilled in deception and incredibly lethal. Out-gunned, out-maneuvered, and out-thought, the U.S. Navy crews must throw the rulebook out the window, to become every bit as devious and deadly as their enemy. The Seventh Angel (Book #2) The world has forgotten the true nature of terror. It’s about to be reminded. A military revolt in southeastern Russia puts a former hard-line Soviet leader in command of a ballistic missile submarine and its arsenal of nuclear weapons. His goal: re-ignite the communist revolution and recapture the glory of the fallen Soviet Union. Without warning, Russia, Japan, and the United States become hostages in a scheme of international nuclear blackmail. When the warheads start falling and people begin dying, no one can pretend that it’s a bluff. As the earth rushes toward extinction, a lone U.S. Navy warship must penetrate the Siberian ice pack to destroy the submarine before it can destroy the world. It may already be too late. Sword of Shiva (Book #3) A single spark can ignite a war that consumes the world. Three Tibetan rebels attack a train carrying Chinese soldiers into the Tibet Autonomous Region. The insurgents escape across the Himalayas into India, unaware that the son of China’s First Vice-Premier lays maimed and dying among the burning wreckage of the train. As an escalating series of retaliations drive China and India toward outright war, hostilities spill over into the sea, and the Bay of Bengal becomes a crucible of naval warfare. The president of the United States orders a U.S. Navy strike group into the area as a stabilizing force, but the situation between the two nations has already deteriorated beyond any hope of peaceful resolution. With Asia sliding toward annihilation, a small force of U.S. warships must defeat the Chinese Navy to preempt the coming firestorm. The fuse has already been lit.

Very, Very Action Packed; Great Reading! Excellent Stories! ... with the exception that there were several tactical and physical mistakes made by the author, including in the last half of Book #3 where he admitted Celestial Mechanic ‘liberties’ with how a certain satellite was being flown. There was also a pretty disturbing problem with an Aircraft Carrier being severely damaged (with obvious flight deck problems) — yet, there was no mention of how all of its airborne aircraft were able to survive to fight another day ... (sigh!). I’m sure there were several other issues that I’ve forgotten, and which I just attribute to literary license. ONCE YOU GET PAST the above issues, the writing is very, very good and the stories very compelling and enjoyable reading. [Warning, though, the start of the Tower’s tale in Book #3 takes a few pages to understand properly.]

As a set, this is an excellent read. Of the three books in the set, I thought the first was the best in terms of action but all three were fully engaging, technically realistic, and with a plot sufficiently plausible as to not interfere with the enjoyment of the story. My only criticism is that some of the technical descriptions area bit too detailed (hatches open, switches switch, rockets fire, etc.) and tend to be repeated, nearly word for word, between the three books. Hardly a fatal issues, b As a set, this is an excellent read. I would give it a 4.5 but they won't let me! :)

Question begins with how does one stop torpedo’s. Bowie’s dream was to command a warship. The world on brink of a war, he gives us a good account of how they may become devious and not by the book to stop it. book 2 how nations became hostages in a nuclear war. Tension mounts as one lone Navy warship, has the duty. Good warship stories, one feels the tension, and the duties, and lives that go out, to carry out commands.

Great Imagination No question, the author’s technical research is outstanding. A bit over focused on the officers, not the swabbies. Concur that all these modern weapons bring us close to doomsday, but the war may be fought over a planet already slain by Capitalism’s unhinged consumption and destruction. Still, makes a good point for staying ahead of the bad guys.

Excellent fast paced action. Realistic combat and thoroughly enjoyable. Great read and keeps you wanting more. The submarine and surface warfare sequences are taut and energizing. Navy people are the best!

WOW! Excellent! Wonderfully crafted and written story from first book through the third book. Gave me a little more understanding into why my dad was always so enamored with his "Navy years". Very glad I got these books. They were well worth the time. WOW! Excellent! Wonderfully crafted and written story from first book through the third book.
