I liked the first set the best, strong female character, although she can get a tad annoying. Overall, it was a good story that kept me interested. The community of prepares she joins is not very believable though. Initially it seems cult like, but it turns out they are very unprepared for any kind of attack, which I needed to set aside my doubts for. There is never a context of why the EMP happens, no background story really. There is never a context of why the EMP happens, no background story really. Apparently only the bad guys are really well prepared, the military is nowhere to be found till the end. Spoiler alert: The next two sets started grating on me though. The story seems to follow the same blue print as the first one, with now added terrorists which apparently are literally everywhere in the big cities in countless number. No explanation or background on those terrorists, but they shoot all the time and they are always everywhere the main characters go. The stories are non stop action and dangerous situations with the heroine getting injured severely but always having to rescue their children with the husbands being bystanders more or less. The endings are also very similar, with the same people (exchange names) dead and the military showing up all of a sudden, and the community rebuilding. The stories in my opinion are less about actual survival, more about a woman fighting big bad bullies and somehow being Supergirl and Wonder Woman at the same time. I did only skim the last one, it was just too much of the same.

I listened to this on audio. The story itself was very good, with well rounded characters, I liked that all three stories followed three different paths during the same time frame. I particularly liked the first novel, but found I was lagging in concentration on the second novel. The third novel was a tad different and I stayed focussed with that one. To be honest, I want to give this series four stars, because the story was good, but I really didn’t like the way this was narrated at all. I foun I listened to this on audio. I found the narration choppy and it felt as though the narrators has no understanding of what they were reading, emphasising words mid sentence that didn’t need to be. It made it difficult to follow and very frustrating to listen to.

I couldn’t stop reading This was one fantastic series. The story is told in 3 different states in the US with different types of people. In each story there was a strong female hero. A woman under normal circumstances you would never think they could survive in this crazy world that it became after the EMP went off. But these woman were not just fighting for themselves to survive but their loved one to. The book engaged you to think of how you might be in the same circumstances

I suppose if there is such a thing as serious post apocalyptic fan, i may fit the category. Its the only genre i read, so my expectations are extremely high. I read book 0, and book 1, but unfortunately it took only minutes of book 2 for me to decide that i was unable to continue. Amongst other considerations, characters must have realistic human emotions in relation to a situation to keep my interest. Amongst other considerations, characters must have realistic human emotions in relation to a situation to keep my interest. For me, in the post apocalyptic world where everything you had is now gone, i expect to feel that sense of loss in the characters. Without revealing spoilers, a lot of really bad things happened to a lot of people at the end of book 1, but seem forgotten minutes later at the start of book 2. This lack of realism is something i can't get passed. It's a pity because up to that point i was thoroughly enjoying the series.

Kept my attention throughout the entire series. Three separate three-part series included in this boxset. The stories included in these series did have some questionable plot twists. To explain after reading a good number of post-apoc fiction. Having a series take "ordinary" people who have done little to no prep and have get through the most outlandish scenarios. That said these books are extremely well written and a joy to read. I will go in search of more titles by this author. In hopes, they Kept my attention throughout the entire series. Fine story It was a good story but too many things didn't click for me. The terrorists would have had to have a huge following to just indiscriminately just walk around killing.. So i don't think they would be a.problem. Not one terrorist was a problem after 9/11. The prisons are designed to accommodate a complete power failure.. No frostbite at all even walking barefoot. The prisoners would never remain in a tight group. And so on. But the characters were developed good and you did become concer Fine story It was a good story but too many things didn't click for me. Well written and exciting. I only gave it 4 stars because of the similarity of all EMP novels. There's always an otherwise unknown character who rises above the pack to take control. Being set in the USA, the first thing that happens is that everyone pulls out their guns and starts shooting an looting. The government is nowhere to be seen. There is always a compound full of preppers who act as if it's the wild west all over again. Once I suspended disbelief I enjoyed the reads. Well written and exciting. It pays to be ready This boxed set had one thing I really enjoyed for a change: strong female leads whose experiences aren't that far out of the realm of possibility. The U.S. Is crippled by its dependence on modern computer technology. The fear and lunacy that ensue from the point of failure and how these people respond is a riveting read. I thoroughly enjoyed this boxed set, and recommend it to anyone. I would like to write my own review, but the review by Liberty1969 was so on target to my own reactions to this set that I suggest you read hers. I'm giving the series three stars though instead of her two. I'm very interested in the topic of a possible EMP and had hoped for more from this author. After a while, the characterization and action felt deficient and stereotypical with the strong female character dominating the storyline with her bravado. A very good collection While I enjoyed all three stories, I particularly liked the first one. I'm a sucker for kick-ass females in post apocalyptic books, and she was one of the best I've encountered. I did appreciate the strong women characters in the two other books too, but it was the first that really impressed me. Overall, I highly recommend this set and its authors! I had actually read the second two already as stand alone books. Was a little miffed the other two weren't new reads :). My only qualm was the number of errors and typos, 4 within an hour, and I don't tend to read fast. I do not blame the author, but do get annoyed on their behalf. Then spend so much time and effort to produce a book worth reading, just for someone else to make careless errors. I had actually read the second two already as stand alone books. Pulse First, please no EMPs. Georgie was great. Wren was more than I could imagine anyone could endure. Kate was absolutely a marvel. Rodney was a true leader and life saver. Finally Dennis got his (too easy). Excellent, all strong women and helpful supportive men. Spectacular writing.

Enthusiastic imaginative picture of societal collapse As gripping as the circumstances in these stories are the first ones were a difficult leap of imagination as the heroine survived circumstances that were too intense to be believable. This last story was much more thoughtful and realistic . Much better reading.

A hard time Kate was in NY when the EMP hit. It changes everything. She had to find her family. Then she had to get her son. With her family together all were safe. Then the escape criminals came. They were led my her x husband. He wanted revenge. It was kill or die. He would kill everyone in his way. He took her children. She had to get them back.

Thought provoking, frighteningly so Not everyone knows what an EMP is or how it would effect our lives. These books show how quickly our world could devolve and the strength needed to not only survive but help others.

Very entertaining I loved the story of people chowing the who!e group rather than just them selves. I was engrossed in some of the ways of interaction between people not know ing each other or the way the priorities shifted as the different situations changed.

A Well-told Tale If you like exciting dystopian page-turners, you'll like this. However, to get the greatest enjoyment, I recommend you read the entire set of "The Pulse" books, starting with the first one. Brilliant!! This box set was very easy to read and kept me up into the early hours of the morning on several occasions! It was good to see the 'apocalypse' from different parts of the USA and to experience different peoples' struggles. Well worth getting. Brilliant!! I've read about a dozen of the apocalyptic book genre and the one thing I ask is, "is it convincing?". Saldly, all three of the stories in this box set is a resounding no. The plots did move along quickly, which were the books only saving grace. The writing was sloppy and dialog poor. A lot of blood death and violence I’ve enjoyed reading most of this series of books but there was a little too much violence for my tastes and some of the storylines were not very plausible. But the characters are interesting and have intriguing stories so it’s worth the read.

Dnf. 50%- just can't get into it. Not sure if it is me or the book. Nothing really wrong with it- I'm just not that invested in it. Don't care to keep reading. Maybe try the next one in the boxes at a later date. Dnf. 50%- just can't get into it. Not sure if it is me or the book. Nothing really wrong with it- I'm just not that invested in it.
