The problem, Fischer-Wright asserts, is that we have lost our focus on strengthening the one thing that has always been at the heart of effective health care: namely, strong relationships between patients and physicians, informed by smart science and enabled by good business, that create the trust necessary to ensure that patients do what they need to do to achieve the outcomes we all want. Drawing from personal stories and examples from popular culture, supported by scientific studies and rock-solid logic, Dr. Fischer-Wright shows how the business and science of medicine are combining to strangle the creative, compassionate, human side of medicine—what is called the art of medicine. She details the three questions necessary to guide us toward true solutions and the five paradigm shifts crucial to bring the art, science, and business of medicine back to balance. Irreverent and funny, steeped in storytelling but allergic to policy-speak, this is a wholly new brand of health care book—one that makes common sense transformational and that will appeal to anyone who has experienced the tribulations and indignities of American health care.

This is one of the best books about medicine I have ever read! It is written from a place of honor and respect, respect for patients, doctors, insurance companies, and those in the pharmaceutical field who sincerely want to help patients get well. Yes, there are some people who enter medicine or pharmaceuticals with the goal of getting rich or gaining power. I don’t think those are the majority though. Most doctors have a range of motives for going into medicine including helping their patients This is one of the best books about medicine I have ever read! Yes, there are some people who enter medicine or pharmaceuticals with the goal of getting rich or gaining power. I don’t think those are the majority though. Most doctors have a range of motives for going into medicine including helping their patients and making the world a better place. This book is about what we can do to restore trust between patients and doctors, between doctors and patients, and between insurance companies and the people they serve. Can we do this? Yes, I think we can. It won’t be instantly or easily, but it is possible. It can happen, and it will require some intentional changes from all of us. I’m willing to do that, and I hope you are too. We spend more on medicine than any other country, and we deserve a first class quality medical system based on trust and respect as well as medical excellence. I hope you’ll take a little time to read this book and think about what this lovely doctor has to say. Her soul is beautiful, and her vision has power.

Back to Balance: The Art, Science, and Business of Medicine by Halee Fischer-Wright gives an unique view of the medical field and the current policies. Halee Fischer-Wright uses experiences as a medical doctor and a patient in writing this. It gives the reader an understanding of both sides . As patients most people do not think about the other side. It is an enlightening read which is well worth your time. I received a copy thrua Goodreads Giveaway.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. As a medical student, this book has really spoken to me, bringing about the ins and outs of the medical field from a unique perspective. What really makes this book great is Dr. Halee Fischer-Wright's stance as a physician speaking on the ups and downs in addition to her personal experiences as both a patient and practicing physician. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone in or going into the healthcare field.

wouldn't say a great read..though throws some light on physician POV... if I ask a payer or health system executive...they would definitely have a different version of this! expected a more balanced perceptive from Halee.. being the head of MGMA...she had been saying the balance of art..science and business of medicine! would have loved..if she had given some insights on how..payers..patients and providers... maintain the balance in art..science...and business of medicine!!!

This was a very well written book, easily understood by the common lay person. The author has some very good points on what is wrong with health care today. She had some good ideas on how to fix some of the problems, now just to get the government and others to listen. It was nice to read this book and be able to say,yes someone understands what we as patients go through and she brought in some understanding of also what medical workers go through.
