Finally, the extra writings by our QUEEN OF MAGIC collected in a professional edited ebook. And in this one dwell the brave at heart. Stories about heroism and hardship. From McGonagall’s grief to Lupin’s lifelong beastly affliction.. To the crazy hobbies of Sybill Trelawney & Silvanus Kettleburn. And in this one dwell the brave at heart. Stories about heroism and hardship. From McGonagall’s grief to Lupin’s lifelong beastly affliction.. If there’s one thing these stories prove, it’s that heroism comes in all shapes, sizes and varieties – whether it’s Remus Lupin giving his life to save the wizarding world or Silvanus Kettleburn hurling Flobberworms at Death Eaters from his attic. After all, you don’t have to be a sword-wielding Gryffindor to be a hero; sometimes, all it takes is having your heart in the right place. ---------- Menirva McGonagall Her chapter and life pre-Hogwarts was great insightful and deep. And the symmetry between her story and her mother was so touching and sad..specially her decision between "Wand or Love" which would be locked away.. And I cracked with laughter in the William McGonagall unexpected too funny 'tragic' poem. And then followed calculatedly perfect with a piece on Animagi was more than perfect and professional. ---------- Remus Lupin I didn't expected it'd be that sad, I thought the editor was exaggerating but I get teary when I witness with him the lose of all the people who count in his life.. Also I loved how Rowling clear the messy insults between him and Harry in the Deathly Hallows. Followed, as good as the editing goes, by a piece on Werewolves.. and I loved Rowling's thoughts of the relation Blood illnesses and werewolves, both similar in the stigma..the fear. ---------- Sybill Trelawney Though her story isn't much about Bravery, rather her crazy Hobby.. but it was fun nonetheless.. And not long since Rowling can't think much of her pre-Hogwarts life.. And the editing was perfect to connect her story into this book, by the converse connection between her and McGonagall And followed by again by a writing on "Naming Seer" it's not much but reminded me with this funny scene.. ---------- Silvanus Kettleburn And if you -like me- wondering who's the hell is him, well you didn't pay attention to the names of Book Three. I'll give you a hint...his retirement gave a huge chance to Hagrid. Why is he here? Not only for his Crazy Dangerous hobby which also was his job.. ..But his act of heroism is sure appreciated here.. in a very funny way. ***************************** ** Finally ** Although you may have read these stories before on Pottermore, I really hate reading it all there and wanted it only as a book. Though I still wish it all become one Huge "Hardcover book- The Long waited Encyclopedia" But really the editing and connecting the stories and the articles that followed every story was totally marvelous and charming and made a good feeling of it as actual book. and the design and the chapters art are fun too.. And I loved all the 4 stories/chapters of it...some made me laugh, some gave me teary eye. All of hardship.. So as they promoted it..It's a a mix of previously released Pottermore content and brand new material, all of which is penned by Rowling. But it's really collected, organized and bound in one, digital book..just so well.. can't say more.. BUT plz Pottermore shop.. let us re-link our purchased ebook from the site to Kindle..as before. Thanks to these wonderful narratives, you’ll get to know beyond of what you may got in the original Harry Potter’s book series, various unforgettable characters (and even one that you may need a moment to remember!). Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin and Sybill Trelawney, all three have key relevant roles in the magical saga of Harry Potter, and certainly you got to know them fair well, but in this book, you’ll get access to their past lives, before the beginning of Harry Potter’s saga, and if you read carefully, with attention, you’ll be able to deduce important details of other mentioned related characters. Oh, you’ll have Silvanus Kettleburn too! What? Didn’t you remember him?! Shame! Shame on you! And you have the cynicism of calling yourselves fans of Harry Potter?!! I’m teasin’ you! Don’t worry! I didn’t remember who the heck was he neither! If you remembered him, congratulations, your owl with a prize surely is on the way already. However, if you were like the rest of us, poor muggles, it’s quite understandable if you didn’t remember this character since he isn’t have an active role in the saga and he’s just mentioned at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. You’ll feel their heartbroken trials, their moments of doubt, their tragic twists, but above all, their courageous heroism, since they may not be perfect (who is?) but they had indeed their… …hearts in the right place. Along with the priceless backstories of those wonderful characters, you’ll be able to get in detail of the related topics of Animagi, Werewolves and Naming Seers. Definitely this is a must-read for any Harry Potter fan!

J.K. Rowling gives us a more in-depth look, a mini-history if you will, of a few of the beloved characters from the Harry Potter stories. Professor Minerva McGonagal steals the show in this group. This phenomenal world created by Rowling is loved by millions across the globe and it’s never tiresome reading about it. Obviously a must read for all Harry Potter fans. This is the first volume of a 3 volume series.

If you're not a Potterhead, this book will probably seem to you as just a compilation of facts and backstories about nonexistent people that you've got nothing to do with—but if you are, this short book will delight you with things you didn't know about the making of Harry Potter, your favourite characters like Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin, or the ones you love to hate like Professor Trelawney! It's less in a “storytelling” tone and more an account of their pasts, with J.K. Rowling's thoughts tagged along! I found its writing and whole design appropriate for its goal—with small precious jokes and heartbreaking revelations, I got more than I'd expected. If there’s one thing these stories prove, it’s that heroism comes in all shapes, sizes and varieties – whether it’s Remus Lupin giving his life to save the wizarding world or Silvanus Kettleburn hurling Flobberworms at Death Eaters from his attic. In Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, we learn about Animagi and the complex magic of turning your body into an animal's and back, Werewolves and the prejudices of the wizarding community, Naming Seers and the superstitions of wizard parents! The wizarding community is as prone to hysteria and prejudice as the Muggle one.And we learn new interesting things about four characters of Harry Potter—both main and sidekick: Minerva McGonagall One of my favourite professors in all of fantasy and fictional worlds, here we learn about her past, heritage, and heartbreaking love story :(Minerva McGonagall is many things: gifted witch, stern Hogwarts professor, lifelong Quidditch enthusiast and occasional tabby cat. If there’s one thing she’s not, it’s an open book. Her chapter made me miss her so much and also understand her a bit more—I love this woman fiercely! Remus Lupin I can admit that I was broken while reading about his past and how he became a werewolf. His life, from growing up to building a family, was the most painful part for me; Lupin has always been my favourite of the Marauders, and his (view spoiler)[death (hide spoiler)] undid me completely 😭A brave, kind man who did the best he could in very difficult circumstances and who helped many more than he ever realised. What I appreciated a lot was learning about Rowling's thoughts on his character and how he came to be. Simply genius and amazing! Major props to you, Jo! Sybill Trelawney Half-believing in her own fibs about her talent (for she is at least ninety per cent fraud), Sybill cultivated a dramatic manner and enjoys impressing her more gullible students with predictions of doom and disaster.Well, this one has always been a character I'd had conflicted feelings towards. Nonetheless, it was interesting to see more of her and where she came from :) Silvanus Kettleburn A pure-blooded Hufflepuff, he was the Care of Magical Creatures teacher at Hogwarts until Harry’s third year, when he was replaced by Rubeus Hagrid. I hadn't really paid attention to him before, if I'm being honest, but I mean now I wanna HUG HIM. If you wanna know more about our favourite fantasy world and J.K. Rowling's thoughts and ideas behind all of it, this brief book will be one you'd relish every page of! “To be a hero; sometimes, all it takes is having your heart in the right place.” I really enjoyed this book. OMG ! I haven't expected before that this book will remind so much of the Harry Potter series. Rowling, how could you do this to me ? You made me miss my childhood so damn much it hurt with this excruciatingly short book. I want more of it. I REALLY want to know about other characters, such as Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore and notorious Gellert Grindelwald. I'm so excited for it because I will have a chance to watch it next week. OMG ! Talking about this novella, or guldebook, I loved the first part which is talking about Minerva Mcgonagall. You have no idea how much I miss her that I was watching Downton Abbey and thought, for a second, that she was still the professor from Hogwart. Oh ! Please write this kind of story again in the near future. “After all, you don’t have to be a sword-wielding Gryffindor to be a hero; sometimes, all it takes is having your heart in the right place.” For the rest of this book, it's so amazing and genuinely a work of J.K. Rowling, not like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

I enjoyed reading these short background stories of characters from the Harry Potter series. My favorite one was Minerva McGonagall. I liked her character and it was good getting to know more about her. We learn about her parents and her late husband as well. She had quite a life before the series began. Marrying a muggle sure could make your life difficult. Her mother was a witch and her father was a muggle minister. Remus Lupin had the next chapter and it is a heartbreaking history. He was turned into a werewolf as a child due to politics. His father worked at the ministry and he said some nasty things to Fenrir and so biting Remus was retaliation. Sybill Trelawney basically laid out a character study. It's interesting because J. K. herself doesn't know a whole lot about her. Silvanus Kettleburn is the last chapter. He was the professor for Case of Magical Creatures before Hagrid. It was only a little bit of information. 4 short stories in this 68 page book. I have to say it was wonderful going back to Hogwarts and I will be reading the rest of this series. I had fun. She created an entire world, that Jo. This is so much a story as it is short character histories.

Another nostalgia read, but unlike the ones that came before it, it's a bit more simple than the rest. So what is it? Short stories about our favorite side characters? Minerva, Moony? Well, sadly, no. These are character sketches. Mini-bios. You might learn some things about the characters that you may not have known, and that may be a given, but there's no real story involved. Just character sketches and their places in HP's life. Nice to have, but not especially fantastic. This is a little collection of extra information on some very well-known and beloved or hated characters from the world of Harry Potter. As is the case with many authors, J.K. Rowling had much more information about many characters than she could place in the seven books. After the official website (Pottermore) went online, she had a place where to post these snippets and it was truly great to see how well-thought-out everything was. This ebook contains 4 chapters: 1) Minerva McGonagall / Animagi This is a little collection of extra information on some very well-known and beloved or hated characters from the world of Harry Potter. This ebook contains 4 chapters: 1) Minerva McGonagall / Animagi 2) Remus Lupin / Werewolves 3) Sybill Trelawney / Naming Seers 4) Silvanus Kettleburn Since Minerva McGonagall is my favourite character in the book, this was an instant win for me. However, part of the chapter was also her identity as an Animagus (and other Animagi we know of) including a description of how to become one. Remus Lupin was definitely the most emotional chapter since the character went through so much. To see the connectedness of all (which was already very strongly shown in the novels), was a true delight because it proves that Rowling took her time to actually create a world. Trelawney has always been one of those characters I could have lived without. Or so I thought. I realized at some point that the small parts are just as big as the others and even if we don't like someone like Trelawney, there is always a human side. In this case, I hated her phony nature and that she was almost as much of a fraud as Lockhart. However, in many ways, the fact that she does indeed have the gift of a seer but cannot control it, makes her tragic and better than Lockhart. Since I've been a member of Pottermore ever since its beta version (I was a tester), I already knew a lot of the information given here. However, the author also included some actually NEW writing that definitely is a nod to the Fantastic Beasts movies. It is noteworthy that all the information felt sort of natural. That is to say, upon reading it, it didn't feel like added to sell more ebooks but it actually gave me the impression that Rowling had had these tidbits forever.

“After all, you don’t have to be a sword-wielding Gryffindor to be a hero; sometimes, all it takes is having your heart in the right place.” Short Stories From Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardships and Dangerous Hobbies was a set of informative tales about characters we know and love from Hogwarts. The four characters who's tales were told in this particular novella where Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Sybill Trelawney, and Silvanus Ketteburn - all professors, or once professors - at Hogwarts. The “After all, you don’t have to be a sword-wielding Gryffindor to be a hero; sometimes, all it takes is having your heart in the right place.” Short Stories From Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardships and Dangerous Hobbies was a set of informative tales about characters we know and love from Hogwarts. The four characters who's tales were told in this particular novella where Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Sybill Trelawney, and Silvanus Ketteburn - all professors, or once professors - at Hogwarts. The tales each behold information before JK Rowling provides us with more background knowledge on each professor. This list includes their name, parentage, hobbies, wand, and Hogwarts house. This small insight into the characters, especially the hobbies section, had me giggling to myself late at night. Characters Minerva McGonagall “Minerva was also, like her mother, a gifted Quidditch player, although a nasty fall in her final year (a foul during the Gryffindor versus Slytherin game which would decide the Cup winner) left her with concussion, several broken ribs and a lifelong desire to see Slytherin crushed on the Quidditch pitch.” McGonagall has always been my favourite professor at Hogwarts from the first movie - this feeling transferred to the McGonagall in the books when I chose to read them for the first time. She was both fierce and inquisitive, incredibly loyal and beyond brave. Getting this close insight into who she was, through childhood, heartbreak and teaching, only made the feelings I have for the professor of transfiguration cement themselves. I just can't get over all the new information I have learnt about the person who, in my opinion, delivered one of the best punishments in the series AKA "have a biscuit, Potter." Remus Lupin “Remus functioned as the conscience of this group, but it was an occasionally faulty conscience. He did not approve of their relentless bullying of Severus Snape, but he loved James and Sirius so much, and was so grateful for their acceptance, that he did not always stand up to them as much as he knew he should.” Of course, I'm also a Remus Lupin fan. I also found his character undoubtfully complex considering his absolute aversion to being a (view spoiler)[werewolf (hide spoiler)] - honestly, I'm not sure if that's even a spoiler at this stage of release but I'll mark it anyway. He was a character that I always get sad didn't get to have the relationship with Harry he deserved. Getting the greater insight into why he was (view spoiler)[a werewolf (hide spoiler)] , his relationship and his friendship with Sirius, Peter and James made me yearn for that Mauraders book that JK needs to have started writing like yesterday. Sybill Trelawney “HOBBIES: Practising making doom-laden prophecies in front of the mirror, sherry.” Wasn't an interesting tale for me to read. I was glad for the short length considering I was never more of a Sybill fan, agreeing with Hermione's harsh opinions and comments towards the particular class Sybill taught - divination. Silvanus Kettleburn “Kettleburn was an enthusiastic and occasionally reckless man whose great love of the often dangerous creatures he studied and looked after led to serious injuries to himself and, occasionally, others. This fact led to no fewer than sixty-two periods of probation during his time of employment at the school (a record that still stands)." Silvanus was a character I didn't remember being mentioned. I was confused for most of his short story, but was honestly amused. I found myself laughing at certain points, like the quote provided above. Overall I'm just glad to know more about the Harry Potter word AND be reading more of JK Rowling's writing.

Well that was lovely. I was delighted to discover that these books exist. I'll have to read more... Just wait until my very good friend, Rita Skeeter (my goodness, she had a great head for a hat) hears about this latest farce. It'll be front page of the Daily Prophet by morning ... Hrrrumph!" From an 18-year old Minerva McGonagall in love to the loneliness of Remus Lupins' childhood, we get a teasing peek at the the real lives of some of our favorite witches and wizards. The first two chapters(which make up a majority of the book) were entertaining, but the last ones felt like a mere formality to fill up pages with info dumping. It succeeded in making me nostalgic, so 3.5 stars. JKRs thoughts on each of these characters after the actual chapters were surprisingly thought-provoking.(es From an 18-year old Minerva McGonagall in love to the loneliness of Remus Lupins' childhood, we get a teasing peek at the the real lives of some of our favorite witches and wizards. First thing I've loved by Rowling since the Harry Potter series. Just really a joy to read all this backstory. Yes, yes, yes, I know you can get this for free on the Pottermore site, but 1. I like books. 2. I don't like reading things online. 3. I like financially compensating authors whom I love with my money (yes, even the mega-selling ones). And in this way, J.K.Rowling brings me back again to Hogwarts! What an exciting read it was. Minerva and Lupin did everything to give me a nostalgic feeling. I must read more from the series.

A very good read! Of course it's the world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter. And, it has Albus Dumbledore... But, it is a very short one. Such a short book that I am not sure if it can be added to the number of the books read in the year, or to a challenge. A must-read! :) A very good read! It has both - Awwwwwww and Hawwwwwww moments! The title undeniably is the perfect one as it envelops particular details for: 1. The aura surrounding her character always emits various radiations looking on to her statements, decisions, commands, and behavioral aspects. I was actually shocked when I read Minerva and stubbornly held grudges together! Her past was kind of troublesome, which included breaking a Muggle heart. I would rather say her whole life has been heartbreaks. Of course, she was in Order of Phoenix when the second battle occurred at Hogwarts. (**Animagus procedure – Transfiguration procedure is really really strange!) 2. GRYFFINDOR – THE WERE-WOLF – AWESOME FRIEND – MISCHIEVOUS – REMUS LUPIN ‘Remus functioned as the conscience of this group, but it was an occasionally faulty conscience.’ Of course, Remus too had a very difficult past which changed course every time he met Albus Dumbledore. He fought both the battles happened at Hogwarts being on the Order of Phoenix, made great friends like Sirius Black, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew, co-creator of Marauder’s Map and ultimately fell in love with the cutest – Nymphadora Tonks. Being were-wolf the cursed one he was still a kind fellow. 3. RAVENCLAW – PSYCHIC – DIVINATION PROFESSOR – CONSIDERED FAKE – SYBILL TRELAWNEY Whatever others say, I liked her! Her prophecies though false predictions of doom and disaster (*though I don’t think so) are far interesting to ponder upon. I wanted more on this mad psychic. 4. HUFFLEPUFF – RECKLESS – ALWAYS WITH MAGICAL CREATURES - SILVANUS KETTLEBURN He was the Prof. of Care of Magical Creature before Hagrid took over. Very fewer things are known about him as he is mentioned least in book and movie both. But yeah, years before he was the one who was held responsible for causing the fire in the great hall when Ashwinder – magical creature backfired in a play. Thus, he came to be known as reckless one. P.S.: This one is my most favorite in all the three. After all, you don’t have to be a sword-wielding Gryffindor to be a hero; sometimes, all it takes is loving heart in the right place.

2 stars - Meh. Just ok. Drastically different from the Harry Potter novels in every way, these short stories read as dry biographies with no charisma or story-telling flair. If one was not already familiar with the characters from the novels, there would be zero engagement from the shallow writing. I found no “magic” here. Would only recommend reading to the most hardcore of Potter fans and not even to them would I recommend spending money on a copy. ------------------------------------------- Firs 2 stars - Meh. "Remus Lupin was posthumously awarded the Order of Merlin, First Class, the first werewolf ever to be accorded this honour. The example of his life and death did much to lift the stigma on werewolves. He was never forgotten by anyone who knew him: a brave, kind man who did the best he could in very difficult circumstances and who helped many more than he ever realised." This alone deserves five stars. Lupin is one of my absolute favourite characters, and this legit made me cry. 5 stars! This was wonderful, just what I needed after finishing my re-read of Harry Potter It's awesome getting little snippets of well known characters, learning more about their pasts, in ways unexplored in the series. For this one, I especially loved the section dedicated to Minerva McGonagall, as she has always been a favorite character of mine. And who knew? Remus Lupin has got the same birthday as my son :) 5 stars!
