I really like the setting of this one ! A goth wedding on Halloween night in a secluded island ! Where can I sign up ? I just found that the characters reactions when they found the body was weird... like it was no big deal or anything.

Tisha (a/k/a Morticia) is an old high school friend and has invited Lani and Kekoa to attend her Halloween night wedding on her fiancé, Ivan’s, private island. Lani and Kekoa invited Luke and Cam to be their plus-ones for the four-day wedding event. The island is beautiful and the castle Ivan built is huge. Ivan is a big Dracula fan and the bride-to-be and many of the guests dress in a gothic theme, including piercings and tattoos. Lani’s intuition tells her something is amiss and she starts writing down her thoughts just in case something happens. Guests start disappearing, a storm hits the island, the power goes on and off, cell and satellite phones don’t work, and there is no way off the island and then, a dead body is discovered only to disappear the next day. Lani and Luke are determined to find out what is happening and, along with several others, desperately look for a way off the island.

Ms. Daley deftly continues to develop the characters as the series grows. Each book can be read as a standalone although readers will enjoy the series more if the books are read in order. This was appropriately creepy for the Halloween season. Lani and her cousin are invited to an old school friend's wedding to be held on Halloween on her future husband's private island. With the island full of servants dressed as Halloween characters, and the groom's guests in full Goth garb, it all lends an eerie feel to the affair. And when her cousin and Cam disappear, and a dead body is found, they know that this mystery may be deadly. Another enjoyable story from Ms. Daley with fun clues and creepy characters, keeping the reader guessing til the end. My only complaint is that the story went along at a nice pace, but then wrapped up in a nanosecond without further fanfare. But all in all, a fun Halloween cozy mystery read.

This was an intriguing read with well-rounded characters. It hooks you from the beginning and keeps hold of you until the end.

A Halloween Spectacular Lani, Luke, Kekane and Cam go to a private island for a wedding and find themselves involved with a serial killer and his minions. It takes them a while to figure it out when they have no phone service and Internet, but in a brief power outage a text manages to reach Lani's brother and HPD shows up to save the day. A very interesting story with a Halloween setting. Kathi Daley's Halloween stories are always well done. A good mystery. This is the first book in the series I have read. I will be reading more of it. Kailani and her friends are invited to a wedding, and a murder occurs. I like the plot and pace of this story. There are mysterious things that happen which makes it harder for Kailani to know which clues are the ones to follow.

(Goodreads) Review: When Lani, Luke, Kekoa and Cameron agree to attend a wedding of a high school friend, they expect to have a fun relaxing weekend getaway. They were not expecting a weekend of drama, mystery and murder. But that is exactly what happened. All of a sudden they have their hands full trying to find a killer and staying alive long enough to hear the wedding march instead of a death march. The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. I always know when I read a book by this author, the characters are going to be likable and people I want to spend time with. This book has more characters than normal (guests for the wedding or the staff working the event) and at times I got a little confused as to who was who. But no need to worry, there is a cast of characters at the beginning of the book for easy reference. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and I felt like I was right there, hearing the storm pounding the island and watching all the action taking place in the dark Gothic atmosphere. I really enjoyed the castle atmosphere, the stormy night scenario and the freakish cast of characters, they all added another level to the book. The mystery is carried on well throughout the book and there are enough twists and turns, suspects and red herrings thrown in to make me change my mind a few times. And as usual, there is more than one mystery to ponder. That is one of the many reasons I enjoy all of this author’s books. If you are looking for a great Halloween read, then this is the book for you. Kathi Daley is an expert at weaving a spooky, mysterious, suspenseful tale that will get you into the Halloween mood, no matter what the time of year that it is.

What you will notice in her works is an understanding of human nature and interaction. You will relate to the main characters and find yourself drawn into their worlds. The books are not overly wordy nor are they lacking in character development. They are quick enjoyable reads. The main character in this series is Lani. A diminutive lifeguard who dreams of being a policeman like the rest of her family. She is surrounded by a supportive family and several close friends and is good at her job. As you would guess she is a bit of a magnet for trouble (remember I said she understands the genre) and once locked on a mystery is relentless (ok she has the nosy gene ingrained, family of policemen). Surrounded by her supportive friends and boyfriend and frustrated family members she is on the case. Aloooohalloween! What could be more romantic than a wedding on a private Hawaiian island? Not much, unless you consider the Goth theme, the Dracula inspired castle, and the Halloween nuptials. It wasn't going to be your typical affair with an array of guests ranging from estranged family, old high school classmates, Goth enthusiasts, and a staff dressed as undertakers, vampires, and mummies. It wasn't going to be your typical affair with an array of guests ranging from estranged family, old high school classmates, Goth enthusiasts, and a staff dressed as undertakers, vampires, and mummies. But, Kailani Pope, Lani to her friends, has more than an uneasy feeling about having been invited to the wedding. ‘Trish’ Cromwell has been trying to find her ‘niche’ and her latest incarnation has her changing her name to ‘Morticia’ and adopting a Goth personae. The announcement of her upcoming nuptials came as a surprise to her half-sister who shares her suspicions of the groom, Ivan. So, Lani, her plus one Luke, and the non-Goth wedding guests set out to weather the storm both outside and inside to figure out what’s going on, but with more than one guest gone (possibly dead), locked rooms, an absent bride and groom, and the Goth guests acting strangely, Lani worries answers may not come soon enough. This third book in the Sand and Sea Mystery series does not disappoint. Kathi Daley’s signature humor, quirky characters, and unique mysteries is one to enjoy by long time fans and newbies. The setting well described and the conversation exhilarating—you can feel the humidity and smell the tropical perfume; you can almost hear the voices of the characters as they argue, worry, and fear their predicament. I even found myself cringing, and yelling, “No, don’t go in there!” Halloween could not be more exciting!
