    I'm giving this 3 stars as a cookbook, not as a cuisine book. The recipes are all clear, concise, and easy to follow and that's really what a cookbook should be rated on. Irish cuisine isn't much. I hate to say it. Being Irish and growing up with my Irish relatives in Connecticut, the only decent Irish food I can remember eating is my Aunt Mary's Irish Bread (I've got the original recipe in her own handwriting and for some reason my mother saw fit to write all over it before she sent it). Most Iri I'm giving this 3 stars as a cookbook, not as a cuisine book. The recipes are all clear, concise, and easy to follow and that's really what a cookbook should be rated on. Irish cuisine isn't much. I hate to say it. Being Irish and growing up with my Irish relatives in Connecticut, the only decent Irish food I can remember eating is my Aunt Mary's Irish Bread (I've got the original recipe in her own handwriting and for some reason my mother saw fit to write all over it before she sent it). Most Irish soda bread is equally good, but nothing brings it back to me like a piece made from Aunt Mary's recipe along with some Irish butter and a cup of "Irish tea" which was nothing more than Twinings Breakfast tea with milk and a lot of sugar. So, anyway, a good, solid cookbook on a cuisine that's not too good.

    Awhile back I purchased another Irish cookbook and was disappointed by the pretentious sounding recipes. Fortunately I found the An Irish Country Cookbook and it seems to be filled with the recipes I was looking for as the recipes are down to earth and homey. I'm not sure if this is true Irish cooking but it is what I imagined Irish cooking to be like. Throughout the book you will find hopefully amusing stories to round out the cookbook.     While the device of using Kinky as the narrator for the tales of Dr. O'Reilly and his eccentricities, this is a cookbook that really does not lend itself to the general public. The measurements needed for the ingredients will typically have one or two that need to be awkwardly converted by using a chart in the front of the book. In addition, the book contains about four pages of randomly selected colorful pictures in the middle of the book.     What a wonderful cookbook! Not only does it have some great recipes that I want to try right away, but it's got stories that go along with the Irish Country series that Patrick Taylor writes.     This is one of my favorite cookbooks to date. The recipes are fairly easy to follow and absolutely delicious! I have yet to receive even an apathetic review of anything I’ve made from this book. It’s completely and totally worth it.

    I liked reading the recipes. Tried a few. Still make Cottage Pie with Champ. My family loves it. That said, I've read all his Irish Country books and the cookbook is a compilation of all the recipes that were shared in the books, so I had seen them all before just not all together.     This was a nice collection of pretty basic recipes that a person would be able to make during the week. Lots of recipes with potatoes and Guinness in them so that's a bonus.     This was a very big cookbook--lots of recipes--and some looking very delicious. Thank you, Kinky! But the wonderful part of this book is that each section contains a short story about the good Doctors and their village and their patients. A really enjoyable bonus.

    The recipes in the majority of this book are not traditionally Irish, so if you came for that reason, you are going to be disappointed. I tried the roast potatoes which do not disappoint at all; so good you would want to make them for every meal, if they weren't so time consuming that is. I also tried to make the brownie in the mug, which was a complete failure. I honestly don't know why it was included in this cookbook in the first place because that is quite a common online recipe that you wil The recipes in the majority of this book are not traditionally Irish, so if you came for that reason, you are going to be disappointed. Then I tried my hand at the butternut squash soup recipe. It took a LOT of time just preparing the squash to be roasted first, then to peel the skins off after roasting them. It tastes fine, but I couldn't get past the texture (like pureed baby food which is off putting to say the least). The more traditional Irish recipes were standard and fine, but they didn't blow my socks off or anything. In my opinion, just rent it from your local library like I did, try the recipes that interest you and then return it.
