I have been drawn to a number of books outlining the strength and where appropriate the faith of women in times of political unrest, stress and conflict. I find it incredible when women's sufferage and equality are still not universally accepted across our modern world that women have had a role beyond childbirth and housework throughout history. I find it incredible when women's sufferage and equality are still not universally accepted across our modern world that women have had a role beyond childbirth and housework throughout history. In women of faith, a book written for children; in a hope to educate grown-ups we have a record from the beginnings of church history and christianity in the British Isles of young girls and women who because of their faith and often martyrdom were later recognised as Saints. Now whether you are a christian or of a Catholic or Orthodox persuasion it matters not too greatly; religious persecution still goes on sadly, as this is not a religious pamphlet. This short book shows young women of mainly who stood up for what the believed in and were faithful in words and deeds. It is an example to all faiths and denominations who believe in a God who can make a difference in our world and above all else it promotes the values and strengths of women throughout the generations. It will teach children about equality and respect for both sexes and make some sense of patron saints. Some may baulk at the prayers to saints but if this isn't your tradition the words are still just as needed to be prayed to your own God. Beautifully illustrated with an exquisite watercolor portrait and like any good children's book promote thought and give understanding.

It’s worth buying this just for the gorgeous illustrations which will make kids in awe of the beauty that will draw them into the stories full of virtuous heroes who used their lives to showcase their love and belief in Christ. The simply written stories are easy to understand for the age level it’s geared towards and though the author was honest in her descriptions about martyrdom and their lives it’s still G rated so you don’t have to worry about nightmares ensuing. The simply written stories are easy to understand for the age level it’s geared towards and though the author was honest in her descriptions about martyrdom and their lives it’s still G rated so you don’t have to worry about nightmares ensuing. The prayers included are also perfect for children and they’ll enjoy repeating them as they learn about the amazing women that have crossed history. Young girls in particular will find inspiration in the strong, courageous women that have paved the roads before them and carved out their own mark upon humanity. The exquisite illustrations and content make this a fantastic gift for First Communion and other significant occasions.

This book reads like a bit of history and a personal devotional. What I appreciated most was the way the author uses these stories as guideposts for young readers. I also enjoyed the prayers included that serve to finish out each section. A book that I would be proud to read with my own daughters.
