   It is an interesting tale about a man who cannot decide which path to take in life. At the beginning, he is very poor, although he was once wealthy. This may appear to be the core of the novel, but this struggle for wealth is temporary and the story itself has a much deeper meaning. Towards the end, he realises that the only thing he wants is to be an honorable and proud man, no matter what profession he holds. It also touches the matter of filial piety in the later stages of the story.

    まあまあ楽しかった。おとぎ話見たいな話だよね。杜子春はどういうわけで魔法使いからだいぶたくさんお金をもらったけど、浪費すぎるからすぐにお金が全然なくなる。魔法使いはもう一度お金をあげるけど、もう一度浪費して貧乏になる杜子春。そして魔法使いと一緒に仙人の道に進んだけど、その道は残酷のでやめちゃった。結論は杜子春はパラダイスみたいな家を貰う。 僕の質問はなんで！杜子春はあまり賢くないと思う。どうしてその仙人が杜子春を助ける？まああああああ知らないけど、前は他の芥川の本を読んでつまらなかったと思ったけどこの話の方が面白いと思った。
