The kids are very excited to see all the different animals and have a good time at the zoo. Once there, one child, Sam, gets very caught up in all of the exhibits at the zoo. He spends too much time looking at the animals even when the teacher tells him to keep up with the group. He does this so many times that eventually he does lose the rest of his class! Luckily he is able to spot his teacher’s silly hat in the crowd and quickly rejoins his class. Sam now knows that he should always keep up with the class whenever they go on field trips. I would use this book in my class for beginning readers. The text is big and repetitive and there is a lot of rhyming included in the story. Additionally, the story refers to different characteristics of animals, which I think is helpful for young children. I would also use this book to help kids understand the importance of keeping up with the group when we are on field trips so that they do not get lost.

This was a very good 'Science' book without being in your face Science book. The Little Critter and his classmates go to the museum. This book helps introduce the reader-listener to things in a museum that they may other wise never see. But it's in a storybook format with wonderful illustrations. My 3 year old granddaughter loved sitting and discussing the things in the illustrations as I read the story to her. Also in the back you can use this book as a 'textbook' of sort. My 3 year old granddaughter loved sitting and discussing the things in the illustrations as I read the story to her. Also in the back you can use this book as a 'textbook' of sort. As it has a word list including a 'challenge' list you could use as spelling words. It has facts about real life that pertained to the story like "There are crystals in the craters on the moon." A section to describe verbs and lists 14 words within the story that are verbs and describes them as 'happening now' or 'happening in the past' and then another section to help explain the difference between 'there and their' A really great overall book.
