For the last two decades, Peter Cohen has been combing estate sales and flea markets collecting vernacular, or "found," photography taken in the middle part of the twentieth century. In his collection are countless images of women of all ages in various unconventional activities for the time: there are women swigging booze out of a bottle, boxing, playing pick-up football, smoking, or shooting arrows or guns—incongruous and playful behavior, all the while often performed in lovely dresses. Snapshots of Dangerous Women collects many of these period photographs, showcasing women from the thirties, forties, and fifties who are equal parts badass and rebellious, and, above all, clearly having a lot of fun. This charming book makes the ideal gift for the bold and free-spirited women in our lives.

A nice collection of interesting photographs, well reproduced. Smaller than many photobooks, but that befits the material: these are snapshots, not large-format photos. The introduction is surprisingly disappointing, consisting of a handful of quotations interspersed with brief historical statements and observations. Beyond the numerous examples of women who are clearly adept with guns or bows-and-arrows I don't get any sense that most of these women are/were "dangerous", rather they're exhibiting kinds of behavior that are and were well within the range of women's activities in many settings even if not what we popularly assume today to be "feminine". But still a nice addition to a collection of photobooks.

This is a fun collection of vintage photos of women being unconventional (rather than dangerous). Collected by Peter Cohen from estate sales and flea markets, the photos are of women from the first half of the twentieth century. They are all doing things generally not associated with traditional femininity, especially in those days. Activities include: smoking, drinking, shooting (guns and arrows), flying planes, hunting, and playing sport. The main thing is all these women look like they are having a blast, whether they are photographed in groups, or by themselves, It really makes you think about how the past is portrayed as stodgy and square, and vastly different from today, when really, people have always been people. Recommended for fun-loving ladies!

Books That Every Badass Woman Should Read In Snapshots of Dangerous Women, Peter Cohen has collected vintage pictures of awesome women breaking out of their conventional gender roles to be their badass selves. Expect to see women boozing, smoking, playing sports, shooting guns, and even flying planes — all while wearing stockings and suspenders.
