Reading this series is like keep seeing an old high school friend you have nothing in common with, and whose company you don't even enjoy, but saying "yes" anytime they ask you to go get a coffee, just outta habit. 8 books gone, 5 to go. When I first started reading the gossip girl series, I thought they were brilliant. It offered excitement, betrayal and friendship, among other things. This book, like the last few, has become rather predictable and didn't get me hooked in quite the same way as they did initially. That said, I still got some enjoyment out of reading it, as the writing style is enticing and funny- and I will continue to read the series if only to find out the true identity of gossip girl! The only other thing that saved this book was Jenny, who has remained charming in all her ignorant youth. The author has made the right decision to follow up this series with a spin-off about Jenny (The It Girl). If you enjoyed the last few books prior to this one, you'll probably like this one too. But if, like me, you've begun getting bored by them, don't expect much change here.

I'm not quite finished, but so far, I'm liking the book better than the series. Before I was a little iffy because I don't like the fact that there are scenes in the book that aren't in the show, but if you think about it, it just makes it more juicier. I love how Ziegesar keeps the same storyline going, but switches up some names, from Prince Louis to Prince Marcus, from Breakfast at Tiffany's to Breakfast at Fred's. At first, I'm like "wait a minute. Who the heck is Marcus????" But once I realized Breakfast at Fred's was Breakfast at Tiffany's,, frequently mentioned in the series, I was like "Oh Okay. I see what you're doing man." Add's mystery, and theres teo types of books I enjoy reading, Realistic Fiction, and mystery. Anyways, the story begins with everyone going crazy about a white graduation dress, with Prom rolling around, I can relate. Blair and Serena, two main characters in the play *former best friends*, hash it out over the most eligible bachelor in the Upper East Side, Nate Archibald. Nate and Blair use to date but they broke up because he realized he was falling in love with Serena. Messy? It gets messier. Nate decides to get into drugs and bad habits because he can't find a way to sleep with Serena because... well you know. He then proceeds to stealing his LAX Coaches Viagra, gets caught, and is almost prevented from graduating. What happens next? We'll just have to find out.

Other than a bunch of scenes of Nate crying and popping Viagra (that actually was kind of funny), this installment in the series shows that Gossip Girl has about run its course.  I'm not sure how many books I have left in the series, but I can't imagine it's a whole lot more.  At this point, von Ziegesar is just rehashing old material over and over.  Nate and Serena make another appearance.  Nate and Jenny are mentioned again.  Dan and Vanessa still can't stop being annoying.  And Dan is still writing the worse poetry ever but still getting recognition for it (though I was entertained by his graduation speech hahaha).  Like this "sexually explicit poem": The view is better from up here. See her factories, her rivers. If her hills weren't in the way I could see into the windows of the apartment across the street. Just, what?  Ugh, barf.  Just go live in the hammock in that weirdo's attic and leave us alone Dan. The only one doing something even remotely new is Blair, and it's in the form of a British guy at least four years older than her.  But other than that, this series is definitely starting to lose whatever momentum it might have gained up to this point.

If I remember correctly, I think it was about everyone going off for summer vacation. Actually it was kind of sad, because hardly any couples were together (like Blair and Nate)!! It was good, although I would have liked it better if there was more romance... even though that sounds really weird. I am excited to read the last two books in the series, and the next one that I think is coming out this fall! I know a lot of people think that they are just a bunch of trash (I know I did at first) they are very entertaining and funny to read. It's really interesting to keep up with everyone's rich, extravagent lifestyles! I would recommened this book/series to pretty much any teenage girl who liikes books aobut drama. Even if you think you won't like it, you may just be surprised! =)

Picks up where book 7 leaves off. This book revolves around graduation. As always there are some scandals... -a boy that may not graduate due to a theft at school -another boy that declares his love for a girl by announcing he will skip college to stay in the city with the girl he loves -a on-again/off-again couple are off-again and he has a new girlfriend -a girl has snagged herself the main of her dreams. The book ends with the graduation night party where most everything changes yet again!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I expected a lot more from the book because the show is so intriguing and dramatic. The book was just plain boring. I was very disappointed when nothing dramatic happened. The whole book was about the same thing, relationship problems, and college applications. I expected what did happen, even though it wasn't that big. The ending was predictable, Blair, Serena, Nate and their friends all ended up at the colleges that wanted to go to and they all got into new relationships. Just one question: If this is the last book taking place in the school year (they graduate, except Jenny), how come there three more books after this? Seriously, the only person I actually like is Serena and she's getting on my nerves. This book is pure trash and I can't understand how others read it. Meanwhile, their respective relationships are going well or falling apart but amidst the confusion and drama, will all of them have the graduation of their dreams? Having a happy Blair (for the most part) was a refreshing change after enduring her constant whininess and melancholy in the previous installments. However, she was still immature and annoying mainly because she was so proud of the fact that she'd snared Lord Marcus Beaton-Rhodes. When it comes to Blair, throw in good looks and royalty and you can never go wrong. She took every opportunity she got to show off to Serena who's 'going out' with Nate. If she hadn't done that, she would have been bearable. Compared to Blair, Serena was incredibly likeable. Of course, the author didn't need to keep reminding the reader of her luxurious blonde hair, perfect figure and gorgeous face. That aside though, Serena pretty much stayed out of everyone else's business and had a clear focus on what she wanted (view spoiler)[ which was to play the main character in a remake of Breakfast At Tiffany's. (hide spoiler)] . She also dealt with Nate's constant stream of tears very well indeed. It's like nothing could bring her down. I liked that. Nate deteriorated a lot as he was no longer just a pothead; he was a frequent crier as well. He missed Blair yet he didn't have the guts to tell her so. In the meantime, he was basically eye-candy on Serena's arm. It'd be great if he could pull himself together perhaps in the next installment. Dan became almost as bad as Nate - he was lovestruck and sappy. Thankfully Vanessa didn't wind up like him though she turned into a (view spoiler)[cheater (hide spoiler)] . Overall, 'Nothing Can Keep Us Together' was a quick, fun read filled with plenty of (intentional and unintentional) humorous scenes.

2.5 stars Taking into account that this is the 7th (or possibly 8th) book in this series I’ve read, it was probably a bit foolish of me to expect it to suddenly get better. It was just not that intriguing, and I’ll give reasoning in the following bullet points: - My first issue is that the story arc in itself has barely changed since the first book. New characters are rarely introduced, and although their glamorous NYC lives are quite interesting to someone like me (from a Midwest town with a population of 10,000) reading about the same exact characters doing the same exact things can only stay interesting for so long. - Secondly, there is no character development (two dimensional af). Serena is the “Upper East Side Royal, a popular goddess everyone would die to be.” Blair is the “Super-smart, catty bitch” who “walks in Serena’s shadow”. Nate has no character traits except *Stoner*, and Dan is just irritating. This leads into my next point... - The characters don’t show emotions. Perhaps both this and the previous point are mean’t to build up the whole ethereal-and-untouchable aspect the author was going for, but in the end it just ends up leaving you bored. Now, to contradict myself a bit. I actually would recommend this book. Would I recommend it over others with a bit more substance like Eleanor and Park or The Sun is Also A Star? Never. However, it is easy to read, and times can get boring. In which case, it may be nice to pretend you are a carefree NYC socialite whose biggest worry is whether their nemeses is going to be wearing the same dress at the party on Friday. Now... if Blair and Serena were a couple... This whole review would look different.

Jenny is still scouting out boarding schools and is finally accepted to one and Blair has met a boy named Marcus. Lord Marcus! Almost everyone is excited for college but someone is thinking of deferring for a year and someone might not even graduate high school. This 8th book in the Gossip Girl series was a let down. I loved seeing Blair meet someone new like Lord Marcus but I still hate Serena's character. She seriously has no feelings at all. She goes from loving Nate and wanting to have a relationship with him, to finally having a relationship with him and not wanting anything to do with it. Vanessa knows that Dan is crazy about her and I hated how it felt that she was leading him on. I'm ready for Dan to get a happy ending. Also, Serena and Blair audition for a movie called Breakfast At Fred's, which is suppose to be a sort of Breakfast At Tiffany's remake, and Serena isn't even sure if she wants to be in the movie. But she auditions and gets the part and doesn't care that Blair is upset. She knows that Blair wanted the part badly, but now that she has the part, she is excited. Oh Serena, you're a terrible friend! Now onto book 9... Oh how I can't wait to get through this series.
