This is the first Sugar Creek Gang book I've read, and I think it'll be a great book series for T. It's the adventures of a group of pre-teen boys growing up and it seems they are all or mostly mysteries. It is a distinctly Christian book series, as the narrator (6th grade boy) talks about the lessons he learns in Sunday School and from his parents, and about how God's teachings in the Bible impact his life and attitudes, and includes his own prayers and those of others. It's not 'preachy' thoug This is the first Sugar Creek Gang book I've read, and I think it'll be a great book series for T. It's not 'preachy' though; being a Christian is just part of his everyday life. This is an imperfect kid who sometimes has a short-temper, or sometimes makes wrong assumptions, etc., but strives to live out his life according to God's plan. This book's themes were about how God teaches us that all people are created equal, regardless of skin color (the book takes place in the 60s, so there was a good history lesson here too, about segregation), not to judge others by appearances, and also a sub-theme of living with your heart in the right place and doing the right thing, even if you don't get all the glory and credit.
