No matter how much you read, or what genre is your favorite, there will always be an author that just delivers magic, pure romantic magic. A. J. Nuest is THAT kind of author. Caedmons Curse continues an action-packed, romantic series of novellas that will carry you away from this world and put you right in the middle of the world magic, mirrors, love and deceit. Caedmon’s Curse continues an action-packed, romantic series of novellas that will carry you away from this world and put you right in the middle of the world magic, mirrors, love and deceit. Looking for romantic tension? Its here, between Rowena and Caedmon, who, in spite of Rowena’s memory loss, proves that love is stronger than magic. Rowena had managed to escape the confines of the castle, hoping to leave Caedmon behind, but, noooooo, he follows and shows her he is the one person she can always count on to have her back, because she has his heart. Together they endure the dangers of their quest to regain Rowena’s stolen key, and her memory from the hands of evil incarnate. From page one A.J. Nuest paints her canvas with love, danger and action with bold strokes! Each word and every scene works like a series of delicate chains that hold the reader spellbound as two of the most amazing “meant to be together” people fight for their future. Rowena is the perfect heroine, brave, strong and resilient, while Caedmon is the knight in shining armor, wearing his heart on his sleeve, willing to do anything for the amazing woman he loves, even die if necessary. Yes, Caedmon is handsome, awesome and kind, but his most swoon-worthy asset is his respect for Rowena and her own abilities. Not many authors can pull together all that romantic tension, action and fantasy while keeping their tale fresh with just the right amount of sexiness blended in, but A. J. Nuest makes me believe in fairytales and fairytale romance from the bottom of my soul. Now, if we could convince her not to leave our toes hanging over that 1000 foot cliff...Every. Single. Time. (Not to worry, I love the thrill of life on the edge) I received a copy from the author in exchange my honest review. I dont write many reviews because I can never seem to get my thoughts in order or write something more meaningful than I loved it. But This is a fabulous third installment in the Golden Key Chronicles. I truly believe that fantasy romance is where Ms. Nuests voice lies. I wont give away any plot secrets as I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this one, but its just as good or better than the ones I don’t write many reviews because I can never seem to get my thoughts in order or write something more meaningful than ‘I loved it’. Don't plan to breathe when you start this book. There's no time. Honestly, if there were more than 5 stars, I would give them to Caedmon's Curse and the whole Golden Key Chronicles. So well written, the story flows seamlessly from one danger to the next. The romance between Caedmon and Rowena is sexy, honest, and fresh. Rowena is a heroine anyone would want on their side, and Caedmon...well, he's to-die-for! Together, their relationship is as perfect as the story. If you remember in the last book, she overheard Prince Caedmon and Fandorn surmising that the key is tied to her memories. Rowena makes camp one night and hears someone approaching. It turns out to be Prince Caedmon. Rowena confronts him, but he gets the better of her. Rowena is suspicious, but she need not be. Prince Caedmon only followed her to ensure her safety. He even teaches her more self defense moves. He is willing to let her go if she insists on it. He knows what it is like to be locked in a cage and would never do that to the woman he loves. It is then that she realizes she may have misjudged him. Later that night, Rowena and Prince Caedmon are gazing up at the sky and he tells her the tale of Helios (the sun god), his daughters, and his one true love Selene (the moon goddess). The story has significance later on and mirrors their love story. The next morning, they are attacked by Braedric's henchmen. They escape, but Prince Caedmon is wounded in the process. Rowena gets him on a horse and heads for the Black Forest. Once in the Black Forest, they are surrounded by Dreggs (beasts that are human in shape, but with bat like wings). Prince Caedmon dies. She defends Caedmon, but is surprised when the Dreggs tell her that their is still a chance to save him. His soul is still in this realm in the Cave of Tears. Love Reading Romance

Rowena has escaped the castle and the dangers that lay within, only to find that beyond the castle walls lie more threats than she could have imagined. She's also yet to escape Caedmon's grasp, but perhaps that is not such a bad thing. The two journey together, reconnecting in more ways than one, as Rowena seeks the key to unlock her memories. I absolutely adored the first two in this series, with Rowenas Key being one of my favorite romance reads of 2013, so I had high hopes (read: desperate Rowena has escaped the castle and the dangers that lay within, only to find that beyond the castle walls lie more threats than she could have imagined. I absolutely adored the first two in this series, with Rowena’s Key being one of my favorite romance reads of 2013, so I had high hopes (read: desperate cravings) for Caedmon’s Curse – it did not disappoint. While Candra’s Freedom took a more melancholy turn, Caedmon’s Curse ramps up the Golden Key Chronicles into an action-packed fantasy journey. The world of the Golden Key Chronicles develops more and more through each book, as Nuest eases us into her elaborate fantasy by twists and turns, and in Caedmon’s Curse the fantasy world building really comes to fruition. There are more fantasy creatures in this third novella and the magical elements of the story become even more significant. Just as much as I liked the fact that Rowena’s Key began in the ‘real world’, I love that the series has slowly pulled us into a magical world with more increasingly high fantasy elements. While Rowena and Caedmon were at odds for most of Candra’s Freedom, leaving me itching for them to kiss and make up (and then kiss some more), I am pleased to say that we have plenty of satisfaction in this area in Caedmon’s Curse. And then some! The series really heats up in this installment, with our oh-so sexy hero and strong, sassy heroine finally getting down and dirty. Of course, like the first two novellas, Caedmon’s Curse also ends with a cliff-hanger – ARGH! I must admit, though, that this one was slightly less scream-inducing than the first two, mostly because I was too busy grinning like a fool to care. With Caedmon’s Curse being the third installment of four, I’m feeling rather divided about the release of the final installment, Braedric’s Bane. On the one hand, Nuest’s wonderful writing, incredibly paced action-romance and the inevitable cliff-hanger have me desperate for more, but on the other hand, it will all be over once I finish Braedric’s Bane, and then what exactly am I to do with my life?

The two years Prince Caedmon spent suffering in the dungeons of Seviere's keep at the hands of a wizard, left him with plenty of scars marring his back. Their enemies at Seviere are not the only ones determined to see them fail. There's a danger closer to home. I loveeeeeeeee this series so much! I stumbled upon it quite by chance and this is by far my favourite installment! It carries more or less straight on from when the second book ended, and the pace and transition between books is smooth and flawless. The whole pace of the book is Formula 1 fast, with a very slick flow. There's plenty of action, and there's loads of romance and a steamy scene we've all been waiting for! And ya know Rowena...gets her memories back. The whole book is written very vividly, almost cinematically. There was some great magical/mythological lore added in the form of the Dreggs, who aren't as terrifying as everyone thinks! And the previously mentioned evil magical wizard. I love Rowena, she's so feisty, and as much of a role model as a fictional character can be! She's strong, she's independent, and she's brave. Caedmon is just...too adorable for words. Speaking of characters we have....the return of Ollie as well! Eeeee! There's been more threads added to the plot...betrayal type threads...betrayal mixed with scheming and plotting and dastardlyness (yes that's a word now). Nuest has left us with the mother of all cliffhangers, and I cannot wait to see how the story ends. Although I will be very sad when it does....AJ are you sure you don't want to do...oh I don't know...10 more installments? At the least? Please?

This book is definitely my favorite in the series (at least so far)! I was sucked into this magical story and literally stayed up way to late to finish it because I simply could not put it down. It was gripping, action packed, emotional, and super steamy! To start, I love our characters. Rowena and Caedmon have most definitely grown on me. I love how the author has managed to balance the genres of fantasy and romance, they blend together perfectly. The action scenes are well-written and had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing. There were quite a few twists in this book and several important pieces began to fall into place. Yet again, the book ended with a cliff-hanger (Holy Cow! What an ending!) and I was not ready to put this story aside. I can't believe that I will have to wait for the next installment AND that the next book is planned to be the last. Seriously, this book took the series to a whole new level - if you haven't started the series yet, then you really should. I received an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    Hopelessly Hooked on Books

Release date is here so here is my 5 star review!!! Love ya AJ!!!!! If I thought the first two books were great, this book is by far my n my favorite of the 3(but I'm thinking #4 will be by far my favorite ;) Caedmon was not about to let his "beloved" out there in the "wilderness" by herself to fight off Seviere's men. Rowena is a true fighter and definitely can take care of herself, but Caedmon was a great help. "If you must go, then I would see you go having learned the best defense available." He shoved away from the tree and that same dark fury he'd earlier displayed creased his brow. " If you must leave me, then my first and only duty is to make certain you can keep yourself safe."...... "Why?" she railed. "Tell me why you would do this!" the strength of his arms enveloped her, cradling her against the broad width of his chest. " How could I not," he whispered, "when I love you as I do?" Ahhhh my sweet sweet Caedmon!!!! Rowena..... "I don't need the past any more. the only thing that matters to me now is you...us...our future. Don't you see? You've already given me everything I need. And that's more than enough. Because I love you."..... "I love you as well," he whispered. "More than Helios' diamonds offerings number in the sky." how much more swoony can Caedmon get?!! I am so looking forward to the final book (well sad that its the last) because I want to see Caedmon and Rowena's HEA!!!!!!

I rated both Book 1 and 2 with 4 stars each, to give myself room to find my favorite installment in the series...I think Caedmon's Curse is it! Rowena and Caedmon reunite and journey into the forbidden Black Forest to escape Braedric's assassins, and then on to Seviere's kingdom to search for the Key... It was the perfect place to leave off - or leave us hanging I should say - for Book 4. :D

Caedmon's Curse left me out of breath in many ways. The fight scenes are vividly and flawlessly written and the same goes for every other moment in the book. There is more fantasy in this book than the first two. With Dreggs, a magical pool and an evil wizard unleashing 'some bad-ass mojo' it is non stop action. And by action, I also mean there is a super hot love scene that was sweet, sexy and even made me laugh a little. #3 is my favorite out of A.J.'s Golden Key Chronicles so far! I don't lie about this stuff b/c I don't really get emotional with this kind of thing. So yeah, I'm serious... After Rowena defeats almost all of the guard in an attempt to earn her freedom and the impending fight-off between her and Caedmon is concluded by the King to be a draw, Rowena sets out in the middle of the night on her own. But before too long he's chasing after her, but not for the reason you think. After engaging in an impromptu battle, it seems she's again fighting for freedom, but he only wishes to show her the mistakes she's been making that no one else noticed before. He eventually says the necessary words "I submit" and he does. While I love that he did this, it would have meant more to the Court if he'd said it in public. However, he does in fact love her enough to help train her further instead of hindering her. That really is love, especially in a place where most men would do the opposite. He loves her enough to help her hone her skill, because if she's really going to leave him, he wants her as protected as she can be, even if it's not by his own self. After cuddling up for warmth to sleep (she's still on guard), she wakes up...not on guard, but having to fight soldiers sent by Caedmon's half brother, Caedmon is shot with a poison arrow, and fleeting on Rowena's stallion they eventually end up in the Black Forest facing the land's "greatest evil"... As fast as Rowena made the horse go, it wasn't fast enough. Caedmon doesn't make it and Rowena fights with her self on what's more important: her memories, i.e. her past, her freedom, or Caedmon. What good is freedom without your soul mate? What good is your past if you have no future? Is Caedmon's will or her own more important? It's neither and both at the same time. That's the paradox. And all of it is an internal struggle. Here's the spoiler - here's where I cried. Not because Caedmon died. I've read about a lot of character deaths and I didn't even blink. It's that a man could love a woman SO much, he'd rather not keep her in an invisible cage...for there is no key for that... but that she be happy even if it isn't with him. He let her go, he helped her skill so she COULD be on her own, and that's love. If you love someone you don't try and keep them or dominate them. You let them go...let them come back on their own volition. What made me cry was that Rowena finally found someone like this, and THEN he dies in her arms. Now the reputation of the Black Forest, the gigantic bat winged and furry Dreggs, have descended upon the couple and upon Rowena's preparation to fight till the death to protect Caedmon's body, the leader tells her there's a way to bring him back, as his soul still remains in that realm. You know why? Because once you meet your soul mate - as opposed to your mate's soul (there's a difference) - it doesn't want to exist without you or vice verse. I've studied soul work so there's a whole bunch of existential stuff I could get into but for the purpose here I'll just say that 2 halves of the same whole are incomplete without each other... After leaving Caedmon in the Cave of Tears he's finally reunited with his soul and they both realize the legends of the cave and forest are true, but not necessarily the legends about the Dreggs. The Dreggs have a bad reputation, but they're not all they seem (don't judge a book by its cover). They're seen as evil entities by those that really know nothing about them. However, they were more than helpful to the one they see as their messianic heroine. The cave's water is the tears of the nine goddesses. While the "religion" of the realm is a little bit of several actual religions, one does not have to be of a particular faith (or any) to get the message that the Universe loves you enough to heal you/your soul, if you allow the divine intervention in - that if you love someone enough you sacrifice a piece of yourself for them. Her head also doesn't hurt as much with him as it normally did when she crossed through the veil, lost her memories, and thought about the past. The past hurts. Let it go and move on seems like the best thing to do and he tries to convince her the future is what matters. While this may be true, the fact is that all of your memories - good or bad, painful or happy, regretful or proud - are what make you who you are. After binding their souls (I'm not going into detail here but let's just say I think you can figure it out) Rowena's misses Caedmon for the first time since she "met" him upon his return home (since she doesn't remember the past). Her only bargain with him is equality, as it is priceless. No amount of money or jewelry can compare to infinite freedom and autonomy. Again: two halves of the same whole is equal, not one ruling the other. That's how the universe is balanced. Caedmon sees the strength beneath Rowena's skin; she's not as fragile or helpless as she looks. One would do well to not underestimate their opponent, even if it is a woman. She just might kick your rear end... Once the two stormed the Castle Seviere and fight their way into the room where all of the chests are, they find the key. Well, the 'key' that was Rowena all along. Not having her memories it was Rowena everyone wanted since she'd lost her memories and could have been 'used' for universal good or destruction - depending on who got their hands on her. As I said, it's ALL of your memories and experiences that make you who you are, and anything...anything can be used for good in the right hands or bad in the wrong ones. YOU are the key to your own future. No man, no woman, no man made god/goddess, no amount of money...just you. Having the golden key back, Rowena and Caedmon find the mirror which brought Rowena there in the first place, pledge allegiance to each other...and jump through... Of course I HAD to start that one right away since this one sort of ends in a cliffhanger, but so far it's my favorite one.

I am now absolutely obsessed with the gorgeous Rowena, the hunk Prince Caedmon, and their journey together to find freedom and love. So thank you, thank you, thank you! In Caedmon's Curse, you are reunited with Rowena and Prince Caedmon. The story picks up exactly where it left off in Candra's Freedom. There was no messing around, no dilly-daddling, A.J. took you right back to where she ended in the previous story. Caedmon had followed Rowena in her quest for freedom and it begins with them meeting once again. What followed was a sizzling re-connection between A.J's two main characters and I couldn't take my eyes away for a single second. Rowena and Caedmon were a lot closer in A.J.'s third instalment. There were more glances, touches and Rowena felt incredibly attracted to Prince Caedmon, which was completely understandable. I loved the bubbling chemistry between them. It was intense, pulling me in, and it made the two of them seem compatible once again. I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom into something so much more than friendship, it made me smile one of those big, stupid grins that last for what seems like forever. Rowena was still a little feisty in this one which I freaking loved! I think this side of her character is insanely entertaining. She knows what she wants and she is willing to do anything to gain it. In the previous novel, she didn't really pay much attention to Prince Caedmon it seemed, but in Caedmon's Curse, she's beginning to notice just how attractive he truly is. It was like watching a female admire a man for the first time in her life. It sent chills down my spine when he would accidentally touch her, and that's because of the power of A.J.'s writing. She manages to include every single little detail in their exchanges and it made all the difference. It made reading a complete and utter joy. Prince Caedmon is his usually sexy self in this one, finally beginning to unravel the mystery that is Rowena. He begins to break her down, bit by bit, and it was heart-warming to watch them come together and spark off the feelings between them. Caedmon's Curse was sensational. I cannot get enough of these two, I really can't. I am just loving their journey together, and what's even better, A.J. has managed to hook me in with the next in the series by ending Caedmon's Curse at a very exciting moment. Literally, I am ITCHING to begin reading the fourth and final instalment, Braedric's Bane. A.J, you don't even need to ask what my rating is. 5/5. Without a doubt. A magical, mystifying story that has held me spell-bound since the second I started reading The Golden Key Chronicles.

Having now completed the entire series I must say Caedmons Curse is my favorite! Although you may start reading out of order, Id recommend starting this series with book one, Rowenas Key, to fully appreciate what has happened until now. Although you may start reading out of order, I’d recommend starting this series with book one, Rowena’s Key, to fully appreciate what has happened until now. The romance aspect of the overall story slowed down a bit in the previous installment but I’m happy to report that AJ Nuest definitely turned up the heat! It is equal parts realistic, modern, and oh-so-dreamy. Fantasy elements truly take flight with the introduction of magical places and mythical creatures and the use of magic. Danger is around every corner as Rowena and Caedmon embark on a quest for the truth behind the key that will hopefully save Caedmon’s kingdom and their very lives. Starting right after book two finishes, Rowena escapes the confines of the castle and decides to journey north in search of the key. Not your ordinary key, it holds the power to destroy entire realms if it falls in the wrong hands. Prince Caedmon is not far behind Rowena since he refuses to let his beloved go off into danger by herself. Their relationship has been a hell of a ride ever since they first met in the book one, separated not only by distance but by time periods as well. Despite having learned the secret involving Rowena and the mystical key during his horrible captivity in an enemy dungeon, Caedmon doesn’t know what to do with his knowledge. Rowena, ever the stubborn one, is determined to find answers and Caedmon reluctantly joins her. The couple faces danger from all sides and a gauntlet of obstacles with no true relief in sight. Rowena was a true bad ass warrior in book two. And although she’s still fierce as ever in Caedmon’s Curse, her snarky self returns and I hadn’t realized how much I missed that part of her. She softens a bit as things calm down and she learns to trust her own feelings. One of my favorite parts about the book is the interaction between her and Caedmon. Rowena’s sarcasm pairs so well with Caedom’s old-world charm. Their funny banter is sweet and endearing and I found so much joy in reading the scenes when they were together. They reminded me a lot of my own relationship with my other half and it made the book that much better for me. The progression of the overall story is very well-paced and I’ve come to really enjoy the ease and finesse of AJ Nuest’s writing. There’s beauty, dangerous battles, magic, love, friendship wrapped in vivid and easy to read descriptions that will leave you breathless at times. I definitely recommend the series as a whole and I’m looking forward to reviewing the final book in The Golden Key Chronicles. If you haven’t started these yet, what are you waiting for?! ** I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Soon however we hear the thunder of hooves approaching her secluded hideaway. Why can't they just leave her alone! Caedmon crashes into the camp, with Rowena already in hiding, and like the typical man makes a mess. But why is he here? That is the real question. He fights her, but also corrects her mistakes, making her a better warrior. Is he here to drag her back to the castle or to free her? The tenderness shown by Caedmon in these scenes, particularly when he ignored his own desires to make sure Rowena felt safe, above anything else with him were so touching and perfectly aimed. Who could not fall in love with a prince who puts you first and treats you like his queen? Yet Rowena's anger is still palpable, if, I felt, misdirected. It was interesting to see the change in her as she had to reassess everything she had learnt in the last two years of her life in the castle. Soon however things take a turn for the worse and Rowena finds herself fleeing, this time not from Caedmon, but to save is life. This was action packed and a full on adventure with dangerous martial artist soldiers on her tail, and a forbidden forest of terror to everyone in front, the pages just kept flipping. What she found was astounding, an unforeseen event for me, one I was very happy with. There was a fantastic mix of tender moments and action mixed into this book, making it a read I couldn't put down. It was non stop and switched effortlessly between the two themes. I loved the ending, a real surprise and left a big cliff hanger. Bring on the last book... but I don't want this to end! The 411 Without a doubt the strongest of the series to date, I loved reading their adventures, both when they were foiled and when they succeeded. A real all rounder that I feel will appeal to both men and women who enjoy action, adventure, romance or fantasy. The easiest 5 I've given in a while

Now that is more like it! I enjoyed the previous books in this series, but I really really really enjoyed this one (obvious emphasis on the really...just want to make sure you didn't miss that)! The story picks up where the second book stops. Rowena desperately wants to leave the castle and so she does. However, the prince is not far behind. I absolutely love the beginning of this book. It is completely adorable. I'm a sucker for a man who can tell a good bedtime story, and I enjoyed the princes tale. It was definitely my favorite part of the whole book. I liked the fact that we were slowly getting Rowena back. I missed the way she was in the first book. I could relate more to her before she became her bad ass self. Not that i'm saying I didn't like the tougher version of her, because I did, I just enjoyed her sarcasm and subtlety more so. The prince is starting to become just a little too sweet. I want to see him lose his cool, snap, something. I feel like he goes along with whatever Rowena wants, for the most part, and he's always so damn great about everything. Give me a flaw, please! Some highlights: I liked the progression of the story. You really start to get a sense of direction...an understanding of where this story may be going. I loved the action. The knife in Rowena's braid was genius. I love how stealthy she is and the fact that her strength is knives (I guess you can say). I appreciated how the Dreggs gave the story a supernatural appeal. I would have liked to know more about them. The evil wizard was a nice touch also. I really felt the fantasy element of this series unfold in this book. I think that anyone who has read the series will particularly appreciate this installment. I didn't give it five stars because I didn't get that feeling you get when you really love a novel...you know..when you can't seem to get it out of your head. It didn't give me that WOW factor, but it did leave me desperate for more. After an ending like that..there's no way i'm waiting to read the last book! *I received this book in exchange for an honest review*

This is the strong third leg of the series and it leaped into action with a bang. The last story left me invigorated from the action, but stonewalled when Rowena's memory loss and her harsh treatment at the castle left her mistakenly running as fast as she could away from Caedmon. I've enjoyed the rise and fall of the story along with new clues to the shadowy and intriguing threat against Rowena and Caedmon with each new segment and this one was no exception. And yes, like the rest, this portion of the serial ends on a dangerous jarring note. The story opens with Rowena free at last until she realizes that Caedmon managed to follow her. She is set to combat him again to keep from going back to the castle and not be chained to him, but then something unexpected happens. Caedmon does the opposite of what she thinks in such a way that she is finally convinced that he wants nothing more than her well being. He is willing to set her free to prove his love, but he just wants the opportunity to be sure of her safety. Just as she has the epiphany that she ran from the one person she should have accepted with open arms and that she can see herself happy with Caedmon, evil forces surround them. As hard as they fight, they are outnumbered and she watches a coward's arrow find its mark threatening to take away her new found joy. As I said, this moved along quickly advancing both the romance and the action plots. Rowena and Caedmon have some adventure and gain more proof that not everyone is who they seem. I was beside myself to see things coming together for the couple and loved the time they spent together. I love the build up of tension and anticipation for what is still to come. I enjoyed this one more so than the other serial segments before it, but they all have been good light fantasy romance entertainment that I can recommend to those who like their fantasy, but aren't in the mood for something ponderous and want something that moves quick to the point. My thanks to the author for providing the book in exchange for my honest review.

I liked that it was fast paced and filled with adrenaline. I was intrigued from beginning to end. I love this series! Rowena is such a strong heroine. She always knows what to do and she cares more about the safety of the kingdom than about her own. Caedmon is a sexy man, he is a prince, but he can be rough. He's also an honorable person who does everything he can to protect the love of his life. This novella has a spectacular finale, which made me want to continue with the next one straight away.

Rowena is determined no to return to Austiere, she thinks that Caedmon will force her to return and end her quest. However he surprises her by joining her. The two make the treacherous journey to Seivere. I will try not to give too much away in this book but it is definitely a turning point for Rowena. Spending time alone with Caedmon really changes her opinion of him, proving that true love can defy anything. One of the things I love most about Caedmon is his ability to allow Rowena to fight for herself while simultaneously protecting her. This book is action packed and filled with so many twists and turns  that you no longer know what way is up, in a good way of course. AJ had me turning page after page completely gripped until the end as with every book in this series AJ has left us with another cliffhanger. This is a fantasy romance that you will not be able to put down. I can't wait to read the final book in the series.
