Each man challenges us to rise above the contemporary definitions of masculinity and to embrace godliness. For me “Living Like Lions” was a very exciting book. Mr. Duren brings us twenty mini biographies that are like mini vitamin pills that once read will boost our faith and move us forward to releasing our potential. Why you ask? Because each of these men started off as children then grew up and became the men we all know today but it took quite a bit of work to get them there. Mr. Duren has divided the men into five categories: THE STATESMEN, THE MISSIONARIES, THE THINKERS, THE ARTISTS AND SCIENTISTS and THE MORNING WATCH. Somewhere we will find the category we each fit into and be blessed by the example of these men. God is no respecter of persons. What He did for them He will do for us. It is time we were strengthened in our faith and “Living Like Lions” is just the book we need to do it. I recommend it highly! Wonderful debut novel by J.R. Duren. I typically enjoy reading Christian historical fiction but this book Living like Lions grabbed and pulled me into the lives of 20 influential Christian men who demonstrated courage, strength, great faith and love. Men from the past two centuries like C.S. Lewis, John Chyrsostom, Jim Elliot, Johann Sebastian Bach, Oswald Chambers, and Augustine of Hippo who impacted the world through their Godly callings. The author starts each chapter with a striking quotation; then a biography that contains personal stories and statements of each man; and finally, a challenge by the author for every man to rise up bravely to become the man God has called him to. These men are not illustrated as perfect humans, but men who, in their imperfections, have discovered that real life comes from a strong relationship with Christ and His Word and trusting in His Faithfulness even in the face of adversity. Courage, Strength. Godly love. The author J.R. Duren has a heart for the men of our time who have settled for less in their walk with the Lord, but can have fullness of life in Christ. Great great well-written read that men and women alike will enjoy. The author did his homework! Living like Lions is similar to a great sermon, chock full of encouragement and the meat of the Word. Thanks to Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas for the free ebook to read and review.

An award winning journalist gifts us with his first "book," and it is good! Duren examines twenty men who influence the world by their faith, but he does not give us a sugary view of their lives. I was most interested in the clear, truthful view of how their failures impacted their faith for good or ill. It gives me hope for myself.

There are books you read and think, "that was good," and then there are books that grab you by the neck and shake you. Living Like Lions is the second kind of book. It picked me up and shook my life in a way that made me want to stand up and fight like these lion-men from history. I highly recommend James Duren's book, "Living Like Lions".
