A book of poetry of the songwriter Joni Mitchell' songs, discussing the lyrics of each song. This is put together by friends and writers. It is a well made book including poems and essays that are written with great feelings. There is a self portrait of Joni on the cover. I enjoyed looking thru the book of a great song writer. I'd give it 4 stars

This a kind of celebration, a kind of community toast, and it's really enjoyable. Some of the segments are very touching - how an artist has brought together many people from many walks of life, deeply moved them, and affected their lives. It's a sort of good-time read. The best one I've read was the one by Joni's childhood friend Sharon, famously addressed in the "Song to Sharon" from Hejira. Full disclosure: I am a contributor to this volume. I thoroughly enjoyed the 50+ other contributions. There is a wealth of insight into the poetry of Joni's songs in this book, by writers, friends and others. Joni contributed the self-portrait for the cover and the lyrics to each song discussed. It is a beautifully made book as well. I would feel awkward singling out contributions, but every one held my interest. Many of the essays and poems here are also very moving.

I got this book through Goodreads giveaways. Easy to pick up and pick a song to delve into. I love reading the lyrics I already know and seeing how others analyze their meaning. IF you like Joni Mitchell or poetry, this is definitely for you!

I found that I was more interested in Joni's lyrics rather than the accompanying essays but some of them were good reading, too.
