This is getting 4 stars for the ending, a first for the Avengers and quite brave. Decent story, it stands out in that era.

Meh. Somehow I didn't like it. And it took me a while to finish it. Art is good, story... not a big fan.

Jim Shooter's writing is clunky and overwrought in places, and the early George Perez art is just passable. But this book gets extra kudos as a massive, multi-issue epic that brought the cosmic, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Avengers all into a single conflict here on Earth -- with lethal results. As an early reader at the time, it blew me away. Good stuff, and a piece of comics history.
