Brazil 2019 I saw Lani and Herb in concert twice in Pittsburgh 2013 and 2019. They were wonderful. It amazes me they get better or maybe they keep reinventing their sound. I found Lani when she started with Sergio my girlfriend played their record she seemed to find the best music. I loved it and being a singer I learned the lyrics and sang my heart out and I was fabulous just like Lani, I started wearing my hair like she did on the cover. My friend and I went to their concert at Syria mosque in Oakland , Pittsburgh. They opened with ye me layahhh wow. Reading her book was heartwarming, sad, filled with love and painful experiences. She is a fabulous singer, and writer. I just find her ability to express emotions in her music and written word to be accurate which is hard for many to do. My heart was sad when she talked about the experience with a therapist. It is not the therapists job to mold the client after them that is making the client dependent on them. I just wanted to tell Lani get rid of her, a good therapist teaches the client skills to apply in their own life and will be able to use the skills for life. They help them become confident, self assured, happy with who they are, and their happiness is contagious. Lani that is who you and Herb are, you both can stand alone and coming together you have creativity, that knows no limit

Stayed awake to finish reading Lani Hall's *Emotional Memoirs and Short Stories*. Couldn't put it down. What a find! Difficult memories and stories. Stunningly personal. She's a beautiful singer, too. Have been playing her *Sun Down Lady* album repeatedly. And she has lots more to listen to when I get the chance to explore. Picked up this collection of short stories after watching Lani Alpert and husband perform. Vivid storytelling and I felt a wide range of emotions after finishing each individual story. Before each story, there was an intro memoir from Lani’s life. It was interesting to see how the story came to be while tied to Lani’s life

Pearls A singer/songwriter/author discovered by watching Tavis Smiley on PBS. Not only had I never heard of Lani Hall Alpert, I was unaware she was Herb Albert’s wife. Growing up I enjoyed listening to Herb Alpert’s Jazz. When I watched Lani Hall Alpert respond to Smiley’s interview questions about her memoir, my interest piqued. I appreciated her honesty, sharing personal events and complicated issues in her life, but her words of wisdom dealing with adversity is what impressed me. As Lani explained the stories, written in Emotional Memoirs & Short Stories, I looked forward to the written word. In her book, she described in depth her life in Chicago, including her love of Jazz. Discovered as a singer in Chicago, Lani moved to Los Angeles, became a lead singer, and met Herb Alpert. Throughout her emotional stories, Lani’s life experiences are captivating. Her expectations remained practical, as she doesn’t live in la-la land. Her pragmatic reasoning was refreshing. Delighted Lani’s book matched her live interview; I took away a sense of hope for my own life after reading Lani Hall Alpert’s, Emotional Memoirs & Short Stories.

'Emotional Memoirs and Short Stories' by Lani Hall Alpert is a book of memoirs and short stories (hence the title). Alpert has amazing writing and a voice that shines throughout. I personally preferred the memoirs because they really stirred something inside. The images she created were so vivid in my mind it is as if I were there. One weakness I felt with the set was that the abrupt shift in themes between stories and memoirs. I felt, as a reader, that it was a little bit hard to follow. Four out of five stars and a recommendation to those who enjoy losing themselves in thought. Excellent!

I got this book for a story interview. I'm not much of a short story reader, so I didn't expect much. Boy, was I wrong. The stories blew me away! A lot of them are about Chicago, so if you are from here you'll recognize the landmarks. The book is about women's relationships with the people around them. Very entertaining, emotional and insightful. Lani is a first-time published author, but has been writing these stories for years. It was interesting but strange. She is a musician and the short stories were like lyrics in that you had to kind of piece them together and were always a bit surprised.
