Chino came to Britain at the age of 10. The core of her photographic work is based on the personal experience arising from this move and her sense of a dual inheritance from both East and West. In many of her projects she uses self-portraiture to explore themes of belonging, identity and memory.

This book collects photographs from seven series by Otsuka, including "Imagine Finding Me", the series that has been circulating on the internet this winter (2013-14). These series and individual images deal with memories and past/present relationships, in very effective ways. The only reason I didn't give this one 5 stars is that the first set of photos ("Tokyo 4-3-4-506") is printed across the binding, so they can't be seen fully flat and extended. The only reason I didn't give this one 5 stars is that the first set of photos ("Tokyo 4-3-4-506") is printed across the binding, so they can't be seen fully flat and extended. These are listed as diptyches, and perhaps are intended to be shown abutting with no space between, but I think they'd be better here either with a small white-space at the binding or printed smaller on a single page. There's a 1-page preface and a 2-1/2-page introduction text, and biographical information and list of works, but mainly the book consists of Otsuka's photographs, very nicely printed. Good quality paper and binding, too. An excellent addition to a collection of photobooks.
