I won this book through the GoodReads first-reads program. I'm been vacillating between giving this book two stars or three stars. The book goes over the various techniques that can be used, and when each technique should be employed. In addition to the basics, the book further explores which massages best benefit each particular work out - as different work outs and sports affect different muscle groups. A great guide. In favor of a lower rating is the fact that the book was edited extremely poorly. Typos run rampant, to the point that one or two sentences took extreme effort to parse out. I's were frequently replaced with r's throughout, which was a truly odd experience for me as a reader. It was a difficult fault to ignore. All in all, this is a lovely guide and it does a decent job of arguing in favor of more regular massage for just about everyone. I would have liked a minor expansion of the section regarding meditation and the benefits of focusing the mind, but that's more personal preference than anything else.

I did love how the writer gave awesome tips on stretching your hands before the massage and building strength in your hands and such accurate technique to use to make the person receiving the massage feel very relaxed and enjoy it. My only complaint would be better pictures to see more clearly the motion and direction your hands need to be going for each technique. I did like the book and would recommend it to anyone interested in the art of massage and or sport massages.

Great book on the basics of sport massage. I loved how it went beyond just talking about giving massages by covering when and how to give appropriate massages to improve performance and recovery. I also liked how it spends time showing you how to open up the feet and hands. Overall I liked how it went beyond just the basics and added a little something more.

I am giving this book a 5 because it helped out with things I knew nothing about when it came to massages. My son is going into Occupational Therapy and so I am sending it to him in hopes it helps him out as well. I was actually able to use some of the techniques on my husbands bad back and he loves it. thanks very much for this giveaway win goodreads.
