From the synopsis, I expected this to be a book about Christian relationships. In that regard, it fell short of my expectations. The book concentrated on personal family relationships, with a noticeable lack of discussion about our relationship with God. Also, even though he claimed to be over it, the author spends an inordinate amount of time detailing his less than fulfilling relationship with his earthly father. Also, even though he claimed to be over it, the author spends an inordinate amount of time detailing his less than fulfilling relationship with his earthly father. That relationship never seemed to come full circle, nor was there any guidance on how to apply life lessons to those types of broken relationships. Most chapters begin with lyrics from the author's song which lend an insight into the material covered in the chapter, as well as the author's approach to certain relationships. In summary, the book was enjoyable. The author's music is very enjoyable. The book itself just left me wanting much more.

"Of Life, Love and Family by John Tracy Wilson is a memoir. The author tells of his relationship with his father, how it shaped his life, the things he wanted to do differently with his children, and struggles to be the man he knows God wants him to be. This book includes lyrics to some of the songs the author has written which are on the CD which comes with this book. The book is written from a Christian point of view. The songs are what I would consider easy listening. Some of the songs on the CD are not Christian per se such as ones about being an officer of the law, one which is about the love a dad has for his little girl written at the child's birth, and one that is speaking about not passing on the bad things learned from parents down to the next generation. Note: I won this book and CD combo from a Good Reads contest.

John Tracy Wilson did a very good job writing this book. It was insightful, meaningful, and personal. The sections for reflection were nice as well. There was much more of a focus on the bible/God than I expected. I expected more insight about friendship, love, and family. The book was straightforward and I was able to read it in a few hours. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes Christian books mixed with personal examples. **Received this book free from goodreads. This book has inspiring insights into our relationships - from those that are the most important to those that are casual - and how to leave a positive lasting legacy. I've read it several times now and it provides new encouragement each time I do!
