I liked the concepts and the info on the 5 love languages but found it unnecessarily religious. Even some of the random examples were Christian based and held no additional value for being so. I understand the authors both hold Christian world views, so it was expected but it was cringe worthy at times for this atheist. I also had a hard time with the idea that we "train" our children to obey (seemingly blindly) authority, especially and ultimately God. Overall though, it was a book with some good underlying principles for connecting with and showing love to your kids o I would recommend it on that basis alone.

My daughters teacher recommended this book as it helped her with pupils and her own children as well. It really helped, I understand my children's different love languages as it makes life easier and challenges of parenting worth while and less stressful as I know and understand how to communicate effectively with my loved ones in a language that they can actually hear and understand. I knew the Love Languages concept and have shared it with pEPS groups I've led. Found this after feeling unappreciated by my children and wanting to have a conversation about love languages - mine and theirs. Book was useful but our conversation fell a little flat. I can imagine circling back to this topic with them in the future. I knew the Love Languages concept and have shared it with pEPS groups I've led. An excellent reminder of how and why kids need to feel secure in their parental love. Key take always for me—make sure to show love how your child tends to recognize and accept it, and that their love languages change over time and developmental phase

"Everything uh a teenager does is motivated by the need to seek independence." Good tid bits of how to understand the teenage brain. Christian outlook from author. ARC generously provided by publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This may sound a bit cheesy but this book is really life changing. I love my children, all four of them, but I am well aware that each of my children are different and unique. So it makes sense that each one of them may feel love differently. By reading both of these books (my kids range from 7 to 17) I was able to identify how to best communicate my love to them. I have a couple who most identify quality time as ARC generously provided by publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have a couple who most identify quality time as the way they feel love, I have a words of encouragement, as well as a gifts. Granted it is important to express your love in all the love languages however when you can identify the dominate one it really helps a parent make sure you are filling all your childs needs. This book is very informative but also eye opening on how we are able to make sure that we are actually demonstrating what we think we are. This is a must read for all parents.

I've given up on this book. It's got some good points but honestly if you've read the original 5 Love Languages book, it doesn't offer a whole lot more. I finished about halfway, so there may be more value in the 2nd half. It's far too boring and unappealing for me to attempt trying to get through the 2nd half though..maybe another time. Some books just make parenting too complicated. This is one of those books. Parenting isn't rocket science. Some books just make parenting too complicated. This is one of those books. Parenting isn't rocket science.
